When I rode my bike into Aster Valley, it was supposed to be temporary. A quick, relaxing visit with friends. No entanglements. Zero drama. But then I saw the bumblebee being harassed on the side of the highway. More specifically, I saw Truman Sweet, Aster Valley’s resident botanist, spice merchant, and bee-costume enthusiast, being harassed.

The jock, the nerd, and a little spring fever...Ned: I don’t understand hockey at all. Or any sport. Attending a team party with my best friend might be a mistake. As an out and proud geek, I admit that hanging out with a bunch of jocks and their admirers isn’t my idea of fun, but getting kidnapped by a sexy hockey player who claims to have a crush on me is definitely a highlight. And finding out that Logan St. James is bisexual makes everything more interesting.

Elliot: I need a roommate fast. Even a temporary one. Beggars can’t be choosers. Going pro after graduation has been intense, and time is precious. Thankfully, Braden seems cool. He’s a little quirky…and very sexy. Of course, I would never get involved with a roommate. That’s a bad idea. Isn’t it? Braden: Moving to Long Beach seems like a no brainer. It’ll be a perfect chance to wind down before grad school and a nice respite from my folks. Plus, my new roommate is a great guy. A little messy, but sweet. Gotta admit, I like him more than I should.

For the last three years, I've lived and breathed hockey with one goal: team captain. There's only one thing standing in my way. TJ Beckett. Beck is irresponsible and immature, and I've hated him since the moment we met freshman year. Yet the coaches see something in him I obviously can't, and they refuse to choose between us. A night on the town after a long workweek at my family's distillery should include shots and dancing - not a hot kiss with a handsome stranger. I'm straight. At least, that's what I figured until I find myself locking lips with a sexy city boy. Now, all my circuits are going haywire, and the spark that ignites between us makes me even more curious. "Look out for Zach, and don't hit on him." My brother's request sounds easy enough. Keep an eye out for his best friend on campus and keep my hands to myself. Easy. Even if Zach is a quintessential nerd, who I've always thought was cute, I don't have the time to think with my...stick. There's only one stick I should be focused on this year, and that's my hockey stick. My goal once I graduate is to get an NHL contract. The last thing I need is a distraction. On or off the ice. Publisher's Summary
Colby Fischer is a bad boy with attitude and a chip on his shoulder. As a senior at a Southern California college, he knows this may be his last shot. He doubts he’ll ever become the hockey legend he dreamed of being as a kid, but he definitely doesn’t want to be an accountant. Things get interesting when he’s asked to train the new intern at his step-dad’s firm, who happens to be the troublemaker from his econ class. And the one guy Colby can’t stand.
Baseball is Sky Jameson’s life. He’s happy to be back at Chilton for his senior year, but he’s burned a few bridges and has a bit too much free time off-season. He could use the money and something to keep him busy until his season begins. But his accidental crush on his prickly coworker could be a problem. Colby is straight and Sky is in the closet. Their timing isn’t great, but the intense attraction is hard to deny. With his final season on the hockey team in the balance, Colby may have to decide if he’s ready to come out on the ice.

Jocks Owning Their Truth
This latest installment of Lane Hayes’ Out In College series is another great listen.
The story is being told from Colby’s POV. Sky shared his history & mentioned Max, well Max made an appearance. I skipped books 3 & 4 so I wasn’t familiar with Sky & his background. But it didn’t feel like I missed out on anything.
Colby’s treatment and anger towards Sky in the beginning was bothering me. Colby acted like a major a-hole. It seemed over the top even if he acknowledged it was misplaced. Thankfully, that didn’t last that long.
I enjoyed how the two MCs had chemistry from the very beginning and they were inevitable. I love seeing Colby’s growth, his acceptance of his own truth (even if I cringed at his struggles & ‘semi’ homophobic notions), and seeing him finally happy.
I was rooting for Sky, I was glad he gained a new set of family.
Michael Dean’s narration on this one was great too.
If you’re looking for a low-angst, high in steam, bi-awakening, sort-of enemies to lovers, alpha male athletes kinda read, then this one is for you. 💜

Redemption at its Finest
If you’d have told me when we first met Sky that he’d end up being my favorite character in this series, I’d have flat out told you you were wrong but as it turns out, once you get to know him and his back story, Sky is one of the best bravest heartfelt characters I’ve read about. Colby is also a great character and I kind of love that the story is told from his point of view so you really get to discover Sky from his eyes and it goes from frenemies to explosive very quickly. I won’t lie and say this book was hotter than Max and Phoenix’s book to me but this one captured my heart in a way that theirs didn’t. Colby has been dealt a crappy hand in life and I love that Sky helps him deal with his newly discovered bisexual status. Their chemistry is off the charts and their journey is heartwarming, heartbreaking, and just exactly what I needed at this time. This series just keeps getting better! 5 HUGE stars from me!
Michael Dean’s narration adds another layer to this story that helps you connect with these characters on a different level! He knows just when to add a little intensity and his narration of the intimate times is holy wow hot!
Highest recommendation from me!!!

When one hot head takes on a jerk
I will be the first to say I did NOT like Sky in the previous book. He was a colossal jackass. He played games and he was selfish. I wasn’t entirely sure he’d changed at the beginning of this book. Then his life crossed paths with a hot head, and after a bit, the cracks became visible. The hothead cooled off, and the jackass became more human, remorseful, and aware of where he went wrong. He wasn’t perfect, but he was trying to be better. That’s all any of us can really do. So, I forgave him, too. I loved that it was a hothead that became his person. Colby had his own demons to deal with. I loved their relationship when they hated each other, and I loved their relationship when they loved each other. Never say never, because life will say ‘Oh yeah? Just you watch.’
This book can be read alone, but it will enhance your experience if you read/listen to the previous books. The previous characters show up in the books that follow them. This one is no different. I highly recommend you read/listen to this book. It’s really good. All the feels, with minimum angst.

Another Perfect Story!
I adore all of Lane Hayes' stories, her characters are authentic, relatable, and multi-dimensional. All of her stories are well-thought out, with characters you fall in love with, and this one is no exception. Colby & Sky are both a little broken with baggage from their life experiences causing them both two be searching for answers to questions they may not even know. I thoroughly loved listening to them navigate through their fears and ultimately overcoming the fears and falling in love.
Michael Dean does an excellent job bringing this story to live, his voice is like no other.

Enemy to lovers
This is another great addition in Lane Hayes Out In College series. I was looking for low angst with a guaranteed happy ending and this author always delivers. Both Colby and Sky had personality issues, but in the end, love helped them grow and find their truth. This novel was uplifting, a perfect escape during these troubling times. If you enjoy romance with a dash of sports, I highly recommend this series.

Another good listen in the series
Ms. Hayes is perfect at writing new adult romance. She’s also been great with this series which focuses on athletes who want to stay in the closet to save their careers, each book having a similar theme, but each story is unique.
I think this could definitely be read (or listened to) as a standalone…it might help to not have the preconceived opinion of Skye going into this book although at the beginning he’s just as unlikeable as he is in previous books. It worked out in this one because to me, Colby wasn’t very likable at the beginning of this book either.
They, of course, end up figuring out how to be good guys and they work together. They were both just waiting for the right guy to come along. I like that there was no miscommunication and that Colby wasn’t willing to use a beard to hide his sexuality even when he was afraid to come out.
The side story of Colby and his stepdad was emotional and eventually heartwarming.
The vocal performer is the same for the rest of the series and he does a great job as he’s done with the rest of the series!
I’m assuming Elliot, Colby’s roommate will get a book next…he’s had some heartache it sounds like and he’s due a happy ending.

How many favorites am I allowed to have? 5+ stars!
Confession: I’m kinda-sorta-maybe-absolutely addicted to Lane Hayes’s audiobooks. While I may not have every eBook of hers that’s been published, I do have every single one she’s ever released. Every single time she announces that she has the audiobook edition of her latest story, I may get a wee bit giddy with excitement. I swear, her audiobooks are like aural crack, and so, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that when I finally had her fifth Out in College audiobook waiting for me on my Audible app, I couldn’t get my headphones on quickly enough. Now, while I’ve always loved reading Hayes’s books, when they happen to be the kind that I become obsessed with, my expectations for the audio version are grow exponentially!
Out on the Ice brings together a hockey player and a baseball player—twenty-two-year-old Colby Fischer and twenty-three-year-old Sky Jameson, respectively. These two come from different universities, but with Sky needing to take a few summer courses at Colby’s school. There’s instant apprehension on Colby’s part when he first encounters Sky, but maybe a lot of that has to do with the fact that he’s got this unexpected fascination with the guy. Avoiding him isn’t an option, not when they share a class together and Sky is now interning at the accounting firm Colby’s stepfather is a partner at, and Colby is the one who has to train him. Strangely enough, the two forge a friendship, one that pretty much feels like more. And to make matters even more complicated, Sky is gay but in the closet and Colby is straight…isn’t he?
There was a lot of tension between Colby and Sky, and while that leapt off the page thanks to Lane Hayes’s writing, Michael Dean breathed new life into these characters and their story. Think of it as bringing what’s already an amazing book to even loftier levels. See, this is what I love about listening to this particular series of audiobooks from the combined efforts of Hayes and Dean—it’s experiencing something you already fell in love with once before and falling in love all over again, only this time, it’s even better than you remembered. I loved how Colby and Sky developed as main characters and how their relationship changed from two people who were wary of each other to becoming friends and then far more than either of them could’ve anticipated. The underlying message of self-acceptance is a recurring theme throughout the series, and Hayes and Dean never fail to portray it as well as they do. Five-plus stars for Out on the Ice.

loved it x
This book was simply perfect. The love story between Colby and Sky (although Sky had been a knob in previous books), was utterly beautiful. I've gotta say I really liked Sky (you doubters, I knew he'd be redeemable!), in previous stories, but I completely fell in love with him in this book.
Through Colby we see a side to Sky that he never shows to anyone else. Colby falls heavily, and little did he know that Sky feels the same way, or that their lives are going to change forever.
But, as we know, true love never runs smoothly, and when they agree to keep their blossoming romance a secret, you know there's going to be trouble ahead.
Ms Hayes' characters are always so real and well rounded that you feel like these are people you know in real life. That you are reading a story about your friends, and that you genuinely care what happens to them. You get this feeling, not just with the two main characters but with all the characters in the story.
She writes beautiful heartwarming stories which will have you smiling throughout, whether that's smiling at the gorgeous heroes, the gorgeous love stories or the brilliant dialogue. It definitely has that feel good factor that will have you turning page after page. With Out On the Ice, she has done it again, with a brilliant story I absolutely devoured. I absolutely love this series. I so highly recommend it.
The audio enhanced the enjoyment of the story even further. Michael Dean is spot on with both Sky and Colby's voices. The emotions experienced by the character are very believable. The epilogue i

My favorite in the series!
5 Stars!
We met Sky in previous books in the series and frankly, I wasn't sure he was a redeemable or even likable character. I should've known if there was someone that could make me love him, it'd be Ms. Hayes.
Sky and Colby meet during summer school and they don't exactly hit it off, despite Colby having a sort of kind of crush on Sky, even if he's never been interested in men before. When Colby's stepdad hires Sky to be Colby's replacement at his firm, they become closer. However, with Colby being supposedly straight and Sky being gay, they will have to decide if coming out is even an option for them.
I loved Colby, he was so much fun when he was freaking out about having a crush on Sky. I was trying to stifle my laughs at 1am when I started listening to the audiobook. And while he had some anger issues, especially with his stepfather—which I felt was a bit OTT, considering Harry seemed so nice—it only showed us that Colby was a flawed but adorable character. This book is told from Colby's POV, yet I felt we got to know Sky pretty well through his talks with Colby. I felt so bad for all he had to go through with his parents and I was happy that he was trying to turn his life around. Colby and Sky had explosive chemistry and I loved their banter and overall interactions. While Sky was the first man Colby was attracted to, and of course, it wasn't too easy for Colby to accept, it felt very realistic and I loved the way their relationship progressed.
The narration was amazing and Michael Dean did a fantastic job with all the characters, especially Colby and Sky. Other than a few moments in which I was so anxious about what would happen that I wish I could've skimmed through the book to get a sneak peek, I had a lot of fun listening to this audiobook. I think it's my favorite in the series so far. Highly recommendable!

Just wonderful!
Lane has such power with words and there is just something about her writing the draws you in and truly makes you feel, love and live along with the characters. Her writing is so REAL and poignant and this one is no exception.
I loved Colby. He dives headfirst into his attraction and doesn't shy away from these new emotions, feelings, and attractions. I found these elements so refreshing! His care and chemistry with Sky were off the charts and I'm loving seeing them embrace each other, faults and all. I loved Colby's honesty throughout. It was refreshing to read about a character who was honest, upfront and not afraid of emotions, even though he'd never thought about a guy being attractive before Sky.
I loved these two so much and think they might be my new favorites of the series!!!
Thanks for reading!
