Otto Grünmandl (1924-2000) war ursprünglich als Textilkaufmann tätig, bevor er Mitte der 1960er-Jahre seine Arbeit als freier Schriftsteller aufnahm. Mit seinen Hörspielen war er regelmäßig im ORF vertreten. Von 1972 bis 1981 leitete er die Unterhaltungsabteilung des ORF-Landesstudios Tirol.

Durch die "Alpenländischen Interviews" (gemeinsam mit Theo Peer, ausgestrahlt auf Ö3) wurde er überregional bekannt, es folgten das "Alpenländische Inspektoren-Inspektorat" u.a. Zugleich war Grünmandl auch als Schriftsteller und Bühnenschauspieler (vor allem in München, u.a. mit Gerhard Polt) tätig.
