It’s been seven days since the demons invaded; seven days since they set the world on fire and put humanity on a fast track to extinction.

Now, the girls and I are shooting across a war-torn landscape in our Black Hawk, headed for what’s left of Reston, Virginia. Our mission: Retrieve vital intel buried somewhere deep behind enemy lines - intel we’re going to use for one hell of a world-wide counterattack.

I’m hopeful we can pull this off, but I’m not delusional. The enemy will outnumber us by the millions the moment our boots hit the ground, which practically guarantees some or all of us won’t be coming back.

Suicide mission or not, we’ve got to try. We’ve got to take back our planet while there’s still something left to take back.

Mostly good with a cascading caveat

This book is entertaining, but if I were to break it down on a macro level, there’s one major faux pas that causes so many minor issues it’s hard to ignore. The author tries to convince the readers that our MC is a leader or at least someone to be followed. Sorry, but almost all his actions plus his failures in grasping both logistical and tactical issues on a regular basis make him far better suited as a support class/follower. He says his team is exceptionally gifted, yet always falls back to the tyrannical mindset of Overlord Protector and doesn’t trust them to do their jobs. Normally this wouldn’t bother me in these types of stories, but the author brings it up so often, it’s impossible to ignore. The cringe factor gets further compounded when our male narrator tries to pull off a drill sergeant’s voice or rages with some volume escalation. Nope, just nope. It’s painful.

Ok, I lied. There’s another issue that is making me wince and roll my eyes every time it comes up. The mental crap, whether it’s psionics with Sophie, battling demons, or seeing his past love, is frustratingly awful in most cases. Not going into more detail as this is self explanatory.

Roz is holding down the fort though. I don’t care much for the main antagonist voice (Succubus), but 1 bad apple isn’t close to enough to cause concern.

hitting its stride

this book takes the setup from book one and we really see the characters and the setting really being fleshed out. aliens, demons, and apocalypse. secret bases and stolen weapons. teammates and ladies get more page time. a slow burn but well worth it.

better than book 1

absolutely love how this series isn't all harem but morely fighting hell on earth looking forward to book 3

More action, more demons, more girls

What else is there to say? If book 1 checked off all the boxes for you, this one is even better.

Loved it as much as the first book

The sophomore outing in the series is as good (if not better) than the first book in the series. The action never slowed, even as it delved deeper into backgrounds of the supporting characters. New villains and unlikely alliances rounded out an intriguing plot line. Highly recommend!

Tedious

One sided harem in which the MC is lead around by the nose in regards to relationship stuff by Sophie. The storyline and plot seem to progress slow. Too much military jargon. The word Marine is over used and referenced. As the reader we get the MC is a marine without it constantly having to be stated or mentioned.
