Publisher's Summary

Grace has taken care of her widowed father her entire adult life and the ornery old goat has finally died. She has no job, no skills and very little money, and has heard her father's prediction that no decent man would ever want her so often she accepts it as fact.

But she does have a big old house on Lawyers Row in Peacock, Tennessee. She opens a rooming house and quickly gathers a motley crew of tenants: Promise, Grace's best friend since kindergarten, who's fighting cancer; Maxie, an aging soap opera actress who hasn't lost her flair for the dramatic; Jonah, a sweet, gullible old man with a crush on Maxie.

And Dillon, Grace's brother's best friend, who stood her up on the night of her senior prom and has regretted it ever since. Dillon rents Grace's guest house for the summer and hopes to make up for lost time and past hurts - but first, he'll have to convince Grace that she's worth loving....

I Praise this Author

This author took on a very complicated project that included several important issues that in themselves would be difficult to write about and do it well. Ms. Flaherty has done this brilliantly.

She has created strong characters who experience challenges and face them with humor as well as bravery.

A book that could have been depressing is in fact extremely entertaining.

I highly recommend this one.

Not an “upper” if that’s what you’re looking for

I want to start by saying that I don’t make a habit of reviewing things. Not restaurants, hotels and especially not books as they represent someone’s hard work, gifts and dedication. But, I felt compelled to review this book just to prepare others like myself that read books for relaxation and the warm fuzzies. While this book was well written, I found it to be very sad. The whole way through.... I fully expect for books to have moments that are unsettling or uncomfortable for the character and readers... but this book was one sad thing after another. And to be honest (without giving anything away), it didn’t have an ending that left me at peace with all of the negativity that happened throughout the read. Some people may not be bothered by less than positive endings and that’s totally fine. Let’s be honest, that’s real life. I just wanted to let others like myself that seek out a “happily ever after, warm and fuzzy feeling” at the end of a book that this may not be the book for you. :)

800 Miles of Entertainment

I listened to this book on a 950 mile trip and it kept me entertained for 800 miles, until the book finished. I can't say that this was a light-hearted, Happily-Ever-After book because it was more of a real-life story. It addressed some tough subjects, but I thought it was enjoyable, even with my tears.
One More Summer never lost my attention and I never became bored with the characters. Grace was definitely damaged but Ms Flaherty wrote her as a fragile but tough and caring woman. The secondary characters were likable people with very human flaws.
The narrator did a good job and that is always a plus.
I do recommend this book but be sure to have your hankie out and be ready to cry.

So much more than a romance novel

I bought One More Summer thinking it would just be yet another light-hearted romance novel. But, it is so much more than that. This is a book about rekindling old romances, overcoming tragedy, moving beyond the past, forgiving past wrongs, and learning to love and be loved. Grace is easy to empathize with. In fact, Liz Flaherty does an excellent job depicting why each character has his/her flaws. And while it was pretty easy to figure out what the deceased father did to Grace, there were several twists and turns in the storyline that totally took me by surprise. All in all, what I loved about this novel was that it ultimately delivered the feel good moments that make you smile when you finish a novel. But Flaherty didn't compromise depth in order to reach that end. If you're like me, this book will bring more than a few tears to your eyes.

I thought the narrator did an excellent job.

Thank you, Rebecca Gibel!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Since I wrote this story, it's natural that I love it, but I was newly thrilled to hear it in someone else's voice. What a voice it was. She nailed the characters as well as if she'd written them.

What about Rebecca Gibel’s performance did you like?

She became the people and I was lost. I found myself surprised at what happened next, because the story became hers when she told it.

Wonderful Tear Jerker

I wasn’t sure if I’d like this book or not. It was recommended by Audible. I started it and next thing I knew....it was 4 hours later and my house was clean. Some of the things that happened were predictable and others weren’t. I cried through the last three hours. Just be prepared with the tissues.

A Lovely Story of Life, Love and Family

When I purchased One More Summer, Liz Flaherty’s characters pulled me in right away and I felt like a guest at the Elliot house.

The story’s theme is of building a family, whether biological or not, to love and be loved by right back. The reader gets to know and experience the quirky characters’ growth through life’s daily challenges, its most terrible events and its unexpected, wonderful moments of joy. Put on your most comfy robe, pull up a porch swing, grab a glass of wine and enjoy this beautiful story.

I think this is my favourite book this year

I cried, more than once, listening to this. The story is bittersweet, and also so beautiful.

The writer did an amazing job. So amazing I decided to write my first audible review even.

Loved however drawn out

I don’t think it was the story that was drawn out! I think it might have been narrator that did. And the last chapter left a lot unfinished, as well as the epilogue. It was anticlimactic in the end. I gave it a decent review because I couldn’t stop listening.
