Brian Doyle's writing is at once simple and deeply profound. Amusing and touching. His topics are quotidian but he somehow, in the most ordinary way, leads you to contemplate the sublime. My heart swelled, my eyes misted over, I laughed out loud – sometimes within the reading of one essay. He has left me in awe of his genius and huge, excellent heart. Now, I'm a little more in love with my own life, my children and this awesome world.

What a gifted writer! I wish I could have known him. It is a treasure to have someone who can express themselves in an uplifting and caring way. Brian Doyle makes me want to be a better person, to be more creative and express my gratitude to God for all I have. So sad that his life was cut short, but so thankful for his wonderful writing. You will love this book. The narrator was perfect.

Appreciate the small things in life

Short essays encouraging one to savor and think about the small things that make up everyday life. Best read intermittently as this message repeats. Has has a spiritual orientation -- not my thing -- but you can easily work around it. Tends to be gentle and wise with touches of humor. Rarely preachy. A few instances of vehemence.

Completely heartfelt

I love this book and will share it with many of the people I love. The audio book is particularly touching with David James Duncan.

Never disappoints

I listened to the entirety of this audiobook from start to finish. The only thing I would want to change is that the audiobook version contain more than just numbers for the chapter headings.

This would make it easier to go back and dip in to the essays that made me laugh out loud or cry, or think more deeply about the topic at hand that I had ever done.

This physical and electronic book has already become one of my favorite gifts to the people that I love and admire.

I hope it inspires you with just as much desire to go forward with laughter, compassion, life force and perspective of this world as is possible. May it help your own tiny and potent position in this world to do as much good as one life allows.
