New York Times best-selling October Daye series

Hugo Award-winning author Seanan McGuire

"Top of my urban-paranormal series list!" (Felicia Day)

Includes a brand-new map and original bonus novella!

Politics have never been October "Toby" Daye's strong suit. When she traveled to the Kingdom of Silences to prevent them from going to war with her home, the Kingdom of the Mists, she wasn't expecting to return with a cure for elf-shot and a whole new set of political headaches. Now the events she unwittingly set in motion could change the balance of modern Faerie forever, and she has been ordered to appear before a historic convocation of monarchs, hosted by Queen Windermere in the Mists and overseen by the High King and Queen themselves.

Naturally, things have barely gotten underway when the first dead body shows up. As the only changeling in attendance, Toby is already the target of suspicion and hostility. Now she needs to find a killer before they can strike again - and with the doors locked to keep the guilty from escaping, no one is safe.

As danger draws ever closer to her allies and the people she loves best, Toby will have to race against time to prevent the total political destabilization of the West Coast and to get the convocation back on track...and if she fails, the cure for elf-shot may be buried forever, along with the victims she was too slow to save. Because there are worse fates than sleeping for 100 years.

Another AMAZING Toby story!

Seanan McGuire is HANDS DOWN my favorite ur an fantasy writer, and one of my favorite scribes in general. This story, along with all her work, is jam packed with action, heart wrenching scenes, philosophical questions, and nuance rare to modern fantasy novels. You feel angry at the injustices committed against Toby and her cohoet. You cry when it seems Tybalt has died and you pray he can be saved. This book ties you to the characters in a very emotional way and every small triumph is that much more satisfying knowing the hardships Toby and co. faced and overcame. Bravo Seanan, bravo!

So good. Missing novella is not author's fault.

This is controlled by the publisher! Not our Seanan! It does not reflect on the quality of the book or narration, please don't downvote because of it.

This is an excellent installation in the series, removing us from the Mists and Toby's San Francisco and into the threatening and well-named Silences, where, to prevent a war between Silences and the Mists, she must do what she does best: **** **** up and bleed on everything. What happens when you send a changeling kingbreaker to be your diplomat, along with her fetch, her squire, and her sexy beast boyfriend? HOO BOY. At once predictable (Toby being snarky, exhibiting integrity in the face of challenges and disrespect, doing the right thing) and fresh and new (new kingdom to explore, new bad guy, new allies, new hope), this is one of my favorite in the series so far.

Another wonderful October Daye story!

I found myself listening to the story every single spare moment I had. I was captivated from start to finish. My heart stopped at least twice from the turn of events in the story. I can't wait to find out what happens next to October and her friends. This story also made me admire the characters Antigone and Dianda even more than I already did. love it.

loved the story narrator was not consistent

listening to the October Daye series back to back is wonderful, but it points out the changes in Knowles' pronunciations/character voices quickly. From 'nows' go Duke Patrick's voice there are a handful of changes that were not appreciated, but didnt diminish the quality of the read or plot.

Fantastic story, accents make me twitch...

I love Seanan McGuire's writing, and for the most part, Mary Robinette Kowal does a beautiful job narrating, but oh dear lord, her accents, especially, ESPECIALLY, the Welsh, are purely wince-inducing! Everything ends up sounding like a bad Guinness ad, sigh. But she channels Tobey beautifully, so I try to just ignore the rest.

Other Writer

I liked the names, the abilities, the different characters. Solving a mystery set in the middle of political machinations and magical murder.
Over all fun.
