Neil Gaiman takes listeners on a wild and magical trip to the land of giants and gods and back. In a village in ancient Norway lives a boy named Odd, and he's had some very bad luck: His father perished in a Viking expedition; a tree fell on and shattered his leg; the endless freezing winter is making villagers dangerously grumpy.

Out in the forest Odd encounters a bear, a fox, and an eagle—three creatures with a strange story to tell. Now Odd is forced on a journey to save Asgard, city of the gods, from the Frost Giants who have invaded it. It's going to take a very special kind of twelve-year-old boy to outwit the Frost Giants, restore peace to the city of gods, and end the long winter. Someone cheerful and infuriating and clever. . . .

Someone just like Odd. . . .

What does Neil Gaiman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Mr. Gaiman, though a professional writer, not a narrator, has the perfect voice to narrate his books. He differentiated the voices very well, had a good pace and, best of all, since he wrote the book, he knew how it should sound anyway.

Any additional comments?

A great story gets an even better performance. I listened to this with my kids and they loved it just as much as I did. It's the story of Odd and an adventure he goes on after meeting a fox, a bear and an eagle in the woods. I would elaborate, but that would take all the fun out of discovering a great story. Sometimes the best stories are not what you expect, so just trust me: This is a great story for anyone. Take a chance and let yourself be transported.

Love his narrating and imagination. I might be 30 but I enjoy it like a kid might. We all need a little more imagination and a world of our own.

Love it

My son asks for it every night after our bedtime reading. Neil Gaiman is truly a master storyteller in writing and oral delivery!

Love this story. Basic, simple fireside tale of a crippled Viking boy who ends up saving the Norse Gods. My little guy and I have listened to it so many times. No violence either, he wins by cleverness. A good lesson. And it's funny!
Highly recommended.

Very nice, simple story

This feels like getting a glimpse into the process of what evolved into his amazing Norse Mythology book.
