Publisher's summary

Manda Wolfgram is a struggling literary agent who is looking for the perfect manuscript to land in her lap and the perfect man to land in her bed. When the sixth-floor hottie finally asks her out, she gets more than for which she bargained. How can a girl wrap her brain around a Shakespearean actor who writes erotica?

Harry Sackes leads a double life: making a career as an author by day and dipping into the dark underworld of criminals at night. The moment he sees Manda in his twin brother's arms, his whole life becomes his personal Shakespearean trag-comedy of mistaken identity and unrequited love in this fast-paced chick-lit romance.

A quirky romantic comedy with some hidden depth...

Not for Me is a difficult book to classify. On the surface, it seems like the traditional chic-lit, rom-com, but there are hidden depths to this book. The story is told in alternating points of view for each chapter, the first featuring Manda, a book editor, and Harry, an author of erotica. Funnily enough, although the are both in the publishing industry, they actually meet because they live in the same building. Manda is continually stumped by Harry's behavior because he purposely disguises the fact that he has an identical twin brother, Dane. While Harry is considerate, insightful and intelligent, Dane, an actor by trade, is narcissistic and a bit of a horn dog. The fact that Manda can never figure out which Harry is going to be present leads to some pretty funny situations. Throughout the interactions between Manda and Harry and Harry and Dane, the author keeps alluding to some horrible incident in the twin's past for which Harry feels responsible. This adds a more serious as well as intriguing tone to this otherwise lighthearted romance.

I wasn't certain about the narrator when I first started listening. Mason's delivery was a little too emotional, almost over the top dramatic for the first chapter or two. However, she quickly settled into a more natural cadence, and I actually ended up really enjoying her performance. She has a bit of a raspy voice, so she handled the male and female dual narration very smoothly. I would definitely be interested in another book by de Falla and/or performance by Mason in the future.

I received a copy of this audiobook at my request in exchange for this honest review.

Very cute story!

I very much enjoyed this book. The characters are well developed and I like the twists that keep one guessing.
I can relate to Manda and I can feel for Harry's insecurity.

The narrator does a good job with the narration.

There was some feedback in the recording. It didn't sound like a clean copy.

Funny

I got this ARC via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. The audio was off and there were many places that sounded hollow. Not sure if that was meant to be or not. The characters, especially the dogs made the story. Harry was insecure because of his scar that he saw much bigger than Manda did. She thought he was a hottie from the beginning. Loved the interaction with the twin who also saw beyond the scar. Overall a funny story. Possibly needs to be recorded again to work out the glitches.

I enjoyed Sullie Mason!

I really enjoyed listening to this new narrator! I hope to listen to more from her in the future. The story was interesting and at times it was funny then I felt like the vibe turned a little dark. overall I did enjoy it and I hope to listen to more in this series. got myself a shocker . . . and a disappointment

Now this was a small switch in roles of insecurities. I enjoyed Manda. I found her interesting and a bit funny. I found Harry to be interesting. He found his looks to be a deterrent to others but Manda and his twin did not see the same thing. I enjoyed the story and the characters.

Narration was good but the audio quality was not up to the level of the narration. I found the hollowing of the sound to be detract from wanting to listen all at one time. I had to take this read/listen in sections.

Book Would Be The Choice For Me

Let me start with the good news. The good news is that I enjoyed the story. More good news is that I enjoyed the quotes that start each chapter. Then there are the characters. With the audio, I enjoyed how Ms. Mason would change things up so so we would feel as if we were listening through a door. I also liked the fact that she didn't attempt to change her voice for the characters.

Ms. Mason was very hard to listen to in the beginning - took me a while to warm up to her voice. Her voice took my mind away from what she was reading. I couldn't picture her as a literary agent, an erotic writer, or an actor. Once I started thinking of her as a storyteller than it made it a little easier to get through the book. She has the type of voice that I don't think would lend to that and it certainly wouldn't have me trying to picture what the characters would look like. Maybe that's one reason I couldn't think of this story as a romantic comedy. Then, while listening I was getting terrible static and it continued to get worse. It didn't happen if I listened online which made me wonder if it was the app. The only thing with that is that it didn't happen with other books.

I will say that I was a little confused at the beginning. Not sure if it was the story or the narration. In fairness to the author, I think I have to go back and read the book. I've never tried to listen and read at the same time but maybe that's what's I need to try here. I don't want to give up on the author because of this experience plus I want to see what else this series has to offer.

So much character

Ignore the few production issues and this book is so passionately performed! I loved the story and the many hat tips to the bard. I laughed out loud plenty. The narration has a strongly whimsical note as does the story. When someone is in a closet or chewing, she really gets into it. Loved that. Would read more in this series.

loved

I enjoyed the narration of Sullie Mason perfect for this book.

Manda, is a sweet hardworking literary agent in a publishing company, had found her ideal writer and things couldn't be any better.
Harry supports himself and his secret twin brother Dane by writing erotica. They all live in the same building, and Manda, along with everyone else, doesn't know there are two brothers. Between an erotica writer , a Shakespearean actor , a murdered sister and revenge we have the right amount of mayhem

A great listen
