Publisher's Summary

After being disowned and labelled as a human because she can't shift, Betty Newman rescues unwanted dogs to fulfill her need for pack. Being rejected by her birth pack was enough pain for a lifetime, and she'll do anything to avoid subjecting herself to their prejudices.

Things change when Ken Birch wakes in her kennel still in wolf form and declares she's his soul mate. His presence wakes her feral heart and makes her long for a life she can't have. Old wounds are opened, and she refuses to listen to instinct.

But only a shifter can be a soul mate, and now her life is in danger by New Port's pack. Either Betty learns to shift or she dies. Problem is the only one willing to help is Ken, the last person she wants.

Enjoyable and not too Cliche

Honestly the only thing missing was a sex scene in werewolf forms. I thoroughly enjoyed this despite thinking it was going to be silly.

Ken and Betty

What a great story this is Betty cant seem to shift, and although her pack has tried everything she’s been declared non shifting and leaves. Ken comes across the lovely Betty but he already knows about her due to coming into his pack territory. Ken can sense that Betty should and could be shifting but something is blocking it. Due to some strange events lets say Ken and Betty may get the chance to be true, true mates.

Not His Werewolf

I absolutely love BJ Harrison’s narrations. He brings the book to life with his voices and inflections. And this story is no different. An already amazing story in book version this audio version creates a whole other dimension. Betty and Ken have a rough start, especially as Ken gets tranq’d and Betty is a human, therefore unable to be a soul mate. Their story is one of trials to overcome and fight.

Fun, sweet, unique series!

Another fun read in the Not This series! I listened to the audio as well and the narrator does a good job. At first I wasn't sure how I felt about his narration, but overall, he does a really good job. I really enjoy Nicholas' take on shifters and I really enjoy the bits of humor. There's a really sweet connection between Betty and Ken. Ken is a wolf shifter, who finds his soul mate, Betty. So, happy day! Unfortunately, Betty, a half wolf-half human, can't shift. Betty has been ostracized because of this and has low self-worth because of it. Since she's labeled as human, she's not allowed to be involved with a wolf pack, so Ken and Betty aren't allowed to mate; she could be killed because of it. All these stupid archaic wolf pack laws cause some major problems. Entertaining world with interesting scenarios. Really enjoying this series so far!

Love at first dart or maybe it was two...

One mistake leads the infuriating Ken to Betty’s home. Betty’s heart was torn to pieces when she was disowned by her pack. It was hard enough to pick up those pieces and move forward with her life but now Ken stirs up old feelings and desires with his adamant insistence that they are soulmates. Should she open herself up to the possibility and fight for what she wants or turn tail and run?
I really enjoyed their story. I loved how close and supportive Betty’s father and mother were. I also adored the sweet moments Ken and Betty shared.
The two had me laughing and smiling with their witty and playful banter. They are definitely perfectly matched.

My favorite in the series!

Not His Werewolf is book 2 in Annie Nicholas' Not This series. The books are part of a series but can be read out of order as well.

Pack beta Ben is out for a run with his dogs, in wolf form of course, and wakes up in a kennel in Betty' s animal rescue shelter. He quickly realizes that Betty, who is half human and half shifter is his soulmate. Of course this is Newport, so complications are to be expected! The couple cannot go through the mating ceremony because Betty cannot shift. Ken is determined to be with Betty and Betty refuses to hold the future alpha back. The story is fun with plenty of humor and has a HEA.

The book was narrated by B. J. Harrison who does a wonderful job. I'm not normally a fan of a male only narrator for a romance but he does a great job. This is the second series that I listened to with Harrison as the narrator and I am definitely a fan.

Gut chuckling good and endearing at the same time

Overall I loved this book this book, the audio performance was witty and lively, conveying the tone of the book well. If one is reading the book and the audio simultaneously there were a some deviations (less than 25 minor) from the printed book, but they did not detract from the overall story and would not be noticed otherwise.

Story content review:

Betty, owner of a struggling animal shelter and a non-shifting werewolf/human half-breed, meets Ken, investment & finance guy and the local werewolf pack beta, when he wakes up in her shelter after a case of mistaken identity. As the story progresses painful pasts are brought up, lies of omission seem harmless at the time, and fighting for what they want is their only way forward. Annie Nicholas’ style of writing is wonderfully sarcastic, witty, and funny. The calamity she puts her characters through while they find love is gut chuckling good and endearing at the same time. I am moving on to read Not His Vampire next to see what she has planned for Victor and Trixie.

I received a free audio copy of the book from the author for a book I had previously purchased. I had the opportunity to review or not.
