Publisher's summary

Final Fantasy is one of the most iconic and beloved video game series in the world. Since its inception, its titles have adopted names, themes, and stories from across global mythology, including the beliefs of the Vikings. This book embarks on a detailed exploration of how Norse lore in particular influenced the writing and design of Final Fantasy VII - arguably the most critically acclaimed of the franchise - and its wider Compilation

Why is Midgar the political center of the planet, and Nibelheim the home of Cloud Strife? How are the Odin Materia, the Rune Blade, and Vincent Valentine connected? What are the parallels between Ragnarök and the fall of the Shinra Corporation? These questions and many more will be examined and answered by award-winning community author M.J. Gallagher. Suitable for newcomers and enthusiasts alike.

Audiobook read by Liam Mulvey. This work is presented as a tribute to the metaseries Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. The author proposes that the speculative comparisons between Norse mythology and the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII are unique, and uses original thinking and analysis to interpret the inspirations, context, and content of the metaseries. The book has not been approved, licensed, or sponsored by any entity or person involved in creating or producing Final Fantasy video games, films, or publications.

A book for true Final Fantasy Fans!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! the author has done a brilliant job researching the parallels between Nordic mythology and the FF7 universe. The summary of the games, chapter 3, hit all of the main points and even clarified a few plot details that I missed while playing the games.
I'm very excited that there will be an additional book release later this year drawing parallels to Greek mythology. This first book was great, but I'm hoping the second book will go into more depth on the life stream Gaia concept. I think fans would love to know the mythological / cultural origins of the life stream. similarly, I'm hoping to hear more about Sepharoth's final transformation design... the many winged angel that seems to have it's origins in a Greek/Roman tradition.
This book belongs right beside every other FF7 collector's item. A must have!

Great Connections and Analysis

I thoroughly enjoyed this book on the connections and relationships found between Norse mythology and Final Fantasy 7. I found it fascinating to learn not only more about Norse mythology but a deeper look into the history of Final Fantasy development and the lore of FF7. I really appreciate the concise and clear connections Gallagher makes and some of the more speculative relationships but fun to ponder nonetheless. It was a great listen especially with the fantastic narration from Mulvey. Cannot wait for the Greek Mythologies that inspires FF7 later this year!

A whole new take on a great game!

Final Fantasy 7 was my first introduction to this incredible series. It has been in my top 3 favorite series of all time. I thought I knew a lot about the game and the world but listening to this book has opened up an entirely new view of the characters and the world they live in. There is so much knowledge packed in this book and it is a must read for anyone that enjoys the game.

It’s my niche

If you aren’t into Final Fantasy and aren’t into mythology, I don’t know why you’re here. If you are, though, or even just a fan of storytelling, this is a great and very entertaining resource.
