Story
Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

Hear the original tales of Thor, Odin, and Loki, as the Vikings heard them long ago. Enjoy these ancient tales of tragedy, death, glory, and love, with all the gory and mystic details left out of the Hollywood versions. This collection, The Prose Edda, was the first time the Viking myths were assembled and written down in plain prose (before then, they existed only as oral poems). This abridged edition has only removed sections dealing with technical rules for writing poetry in the Viking style, but has included all the myths and legends.

Story
Most people have heard of the Celts - the elusive, ancient tribal people who resided in present-day England, Ireland, Scotland and France. Paradoxically characterized as both barbaric and innocent, the Celts appeal to the modern world as a symbol of a bygone era, a world destroyed by the ambition of empire and the spread of Christianity throughout Western Europe. Despite the pervasive cultural and literary influence of the Celts, shockingly little is known of their way of life and beliefs, because very few records of their stories exist.

The poems of the Poetic Edda have waited a long time for a modern English translation that would do them justice. Here it is at last (Odin be praised!) and well worth the wait. These amazing texts from a 13th-century Icelandic manuscript are of huge historical, mythological, and literary importance, containing the lion's share of information that survives today about the gods and heroes of pre-Christian Scandinavians, their unique vision of the beginning and end of the world, etc.

Not disappointing
I very much looked forward to this release, knowing the author would bring a new point of view in his retelling of classic Norse myths. He did not disappoint, and this book was a swift in clear prose style. I enjoyed the subtle humor that only enhanced a story where appropriate, and did not alter the pace of the legends.

Absurd choice for narrator.
The content itself is good - Covering quite a large array of topics. This though is pretty much ruined by the narrator. I can't quite comprehend how this publisher thought that this narrator was remotely suitable for narrating this work. I've never been so frustrated with an audiobook - You have to put a significant amount of effort into actually understanding what this narrator is saying most of the time, with mispronunciations abound and, as others have stated, long pauses before she pronounces many words. I have unfortunately had to completely abandon this work and bought the book to read directly.
