Publisher's Summary

Performed by the acclaimed actor Michael B. Jordan (The Wire, Fantastic Four, Creed), Upstanders is a stirring tribute to the ordinary people who make a remarkable difference in big cities and small towns across the country.

For more than a year, Howard Schultz, the chairman and former CEO of Starbucks, and former Washington Post senior correspondent and associate editor Rajiv Chandrasekaran searched the country for even more of America's unsung heroes, as a follow-up to Upstanders' first season. Now you'll hear the stories and voices of the people they found - local citizens who are demonstrating unbelievable courage and inspiring a better America at a time when we need these heroes more than ever.

From the Dallas chef who's staffing his restaurant with former juvenile offenders, to the Missoula, Montana mother who opened her community's hearts and doors to refugees, to the Seattle firefighter who's helping to destigmatize post-traumatic stress among our nation's first responders - the 11 individuals featured in this second volume of Upstanders embody the American spirit and much of what's missing from today's national debate over how to salvage America's soul.

Through their passion for humanity, courage to lead, and willingness to act, the Upstanders we celebrate here remind us that we all have the power to create positive change in our communities and beyond.

just simply remarkable!

In an age where larger than life heroes grab our attention, it is more spectacular for me to understand that every day heroes dedicate themselves to make their world a little bit better through selfless consistent acts of courage!

Great stories read poorly

The reader's clipped style, reading words instead of thoughts, was so distracting I stopped halfway through. I'm looking for a text version so I may finish and continue to be inspired by these strong people and their accomplishments.

Inspiring

All the stories are very inspiring and make me want to do more good in the world. People who face the difficult situation and find a way to make it better. It starts small and gradually get bigger or people have big picture and start small and local and expand and influence more people.

Better than I thought

I wasn't sure about how I would like this but I ended up really liking it. I love that there was mini stories and each chapter was a different story of someone doing a really cool act of kindness or starting a business or whatever it was. I hope there will be a 3rd season.

Uplifting and inspirational

These little vignettes of “heroes” are really uplifting and inspiring. Good for Starbucks for getting this information out there. I await Season 3. The man who reads it is very down to earth and likable. Though a little variety in readers might be a good idea.

Boring report, not a book

This part was even more boring than the first one.. Less inspiring stories, more about businesses.

Better as a podcast

The stories and content are interesting but lack the impact that the serialized podcast did for season 1. If audible is the format for future seasons, they should consider multiple narrators or include the individuals from the stories.
