Publisher's summary

After a devastating flood orphaned Noelle Brown, she thought her handsome and charming benefactor, Andrew Paige, could be the man of her dreams. So why did his steely-eyed older stepbrother, Jared Dunn, make her heart race and her breath catch in her throat?

Desperado turned lawman, Jared had come home to Fort Worth, Texas, ready to leave his dangerous past behind. The green-eyed, feisty young woman his stepbrother had taken in wasn’t the gold digger Jared had expected. Far from it - the unconventional, innocent beauty needed his guidance to learn the ways of high society, a task he found surprisingly enjoyable.

When scandal threatened them all, Noelle would be forced to marry to save the family’s honor. But which brother had truly captured her heart? With rivalry pitting brother against brother, one thing was for certain: this wouldn’t be a marriage of convenience!

A Sizzling Western May and December Romance

Noelle is a charming 19 year old who last lost her entire family in a tragic flood. Jared is a handsome although 17 years old man with a gun slinging past. Noelle and Jarred will have you cheering for them to finally get it together. Of course Noelle is an innocent. Jared had developed a hard shell and has lots of life experience. I have to admit that I became a bit frustrated with Jared because it took him so long to finally believe in Noelle even after he discovered the truth about her. This story has a bit of everything, even including historical references that seem to add a bit of relevance to the story and made the characters somewhat more believable. And I don’t want to leave out the character that every will love to hate, Jared step-brother Andrew. Andrew seems to be the dashing, handsome one that Noelle thinks she is falling for, but you will soon realize that Andrew is an imposter. This story also has a very interesting side story; Jared fights for the freedom of an honest man who is being framed. These are just some of the very redeemable qualities of Jared. The attraction between Noelle and Jared develops at a believable pace and this is what makes this such a sweet little love story for me. And of course there is a HEA (Happy Ever After).

Hi Ho - Hi Ho, Back to the past I go :)

Any additional comments?

Noelle Brown was away from home, caring for her sick uncle, when Galveston was destroyed by a hurricane. Her entire family had been killed, leaving her with the tragic memories of identifying them, and still living in the city, fearing the next storm. When a distant cousin appears and invites her to leave and live with him and his grandmother, she works hard to fit in.

Andrew might be a dashing man, but he lacks true character. He is more than willing to have Noelle in his home, but she tends to be an embarrassment to him with her unsocial graces. But, she is pretty enough, he believes he can convince her to become his mistress.

Andrew's stepbrother, Jared Dunn is more than just cityfied lawyer he presents. Having a long history involving gunfights, the Rangers, and military service, Jared provides for his grandmother and frivolous stepbrother, Andrew. Finding the fiesty newcomer, Noelle in his home, sets in motion the fulfillment of his dreams, even before he knows he has them.

A very enjoyable story. A little thrown off by the time frame with the going back and forth between gunfights and horseback riding to the typewriter and telephone. It all seemed just a little weird but this book was a nice change from my usual reads :)

Angst and misunderstandings galore....

I am in a minority here as most of the readers rated this book very highly. I don’t like contrived conflicts and misunderstandings and this book is full of it.
It’s one of those books where heroine thinks he doesn’t love her and hero presumes she is in love with someone else, they don’t communicate but argue until the very end.....

Great characters!

The characters in this book were uniquely flawed. It was a fun read and really made you feel like you were in Texas in 1900.

The narration was superb! each voice was clear and unique. Great talent and fun to listen to.

Lovely

Any additional comments?

Great book. Really kept my interest from the first page to the last. Jared is a wonderful character. He was a gun man at one time but left the outlaw business to become a rich Harvard lawyer. Now he is perceived as a milksop attorney and not the macho man that he really is. He goes back South to his home where his grandmother and half brother are living in Jared's house and on his funds. His brother, Andrew, is a weak man who had a desk job in the war, but presents himself as a dashing calvary officer with a lot of fighting in his background. He has brought a distant cousin to live with him and his grandmother in Jared's house. Her name is Noelle. She is enthralled by Andrew but Andrew wants someone more polished and higher up in society as his wife. Jared is attracted to Noelle. Noelle begins to be attracted to Jared, but thinks she is still in love with Andrew. This triangle presents a very interesting story.

There is a "To Kill a Mockingbird" storyline running throughout (involving Jared's defense of a man charged with robbery and assault). This was well written and not your usual chick lit romance. It was a little deeper and the characters were very well drawn by the author. The reader was also excellent.
