Lia needs ANSWERS from beyond, NOT matchmaking!

When 20-something Lia’s grandmother dies, her life is knocked upside-down. In order to satisfy the terms of her inheritance, Lia is forced to move to the family’s apartment complex in the scenic mountain town of Applebarrow, leaving behind her dead-end job and long-term boyfriend, Jason. While she’s happy to fulfill her Granana’s unusual dying wish to play social director to the eclectic group of tenants, she’s surprised to discover they are not what she was expecting.

Her days as an RA in her college dorm were inadequate preparation for personalities such as a jealous librarian who names her Thanksgiving turkeys, a charmingly naive mechanic who thinks New Wave is beach music, and a volatile menopausal woman who claims to be a delicate flower.

To add to the mayhem, she meets Logan, an attractive young bartender with a penchant for rescuing her from absurd antics, such as losing her phone to a raccoon and thinking Long Island Iced Teas contain little alcohol. As Jason’s behavior becomes increasingly suspicious and erratic, Lia can’t help being drawn to Logan’s thoughtfulness, wit, and intense blue eyes.

As she adapts to her new community, secrets and lies emerge, and Lia wonders what the deceased, AND living, people in her life are hiding. Working to uncover the evidence, Lia hopes a wacky, unexpected visitor from beyond will provide the answers she craves - before she loses her grip on reality, and the love of her life.

Nobody Tells Lia Anything is Book 1 in the Spooky Matchmakers series.

Okay - but a bit long

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.

The book is advertised as "Laugh Out Loud Paranormal" - I did not find this to be true. I smiled a few times but no laugh out loud moments for me. At times, I found this story to be very tedious. Lia has a boyfriend Jason- and Lia is told on numerous occasions that he is not right for her - and Jason behaves on numerous occasions like he is not right for her. Lia is told on numerous occasions that her neighbor and bar owner Logan is perfect for her - and Logan is shown on numerous occasions that he is perfect for her. Yet, Lia complains about Jason and daydreams about Logan - over and over again. I get Lia's reluctance on not wanting to quickly give up on a long-term relationship - but, I'm sorry I just got tired of her wishy-washy behavior and every time it happened - Jason bad, Logan good - I audibly sighed. I think this would have been better had it been shorter.

The narrator, Rosie O'Toole, did a very nice job. She provided various voices for the different characters.

Why does everyone love this narrator???????

I’m about 1/4 in. I was ready to give up 1/8 in. The narrator is a terrible choice. The main character is “just a few years out of college” but sounds like an old woman, and the voice is SO WHINEY!!! I keep envisioning Julia Whelan or Brittany Presley which would make way more sense. I think a lot of the over explaining would fit better with a younger sounding voice. It also sounds like the narrator rushing through the lines and even mushes her words together. There are also no pauses between jokes or who’s talking so it all runs together. I can’t return this as it was a book gifted from my husband from one of his credits. I’ve not laughed once but that could be poor delivery on the narrator’s part. OH! And the main character is “not like other girls.” 🙄

UPDATE: I can’t. It’s bad. I don’t know if it’s the narration or poor writing.

Finding the Truth

This book is definitely a rollercoaster ride of laughter, family secrets, cheaters and one bossy ghost. I loved this zany storyline it was funny, descriptive and well developed. The twist and turns will have you scratching your head but the end will make you die laughing no pun intended. Rosie O'Toole is absolutely amazing as the narrator especially when she reads certain lines. I highly recommend this book if you like to laugh and love a little ghostly wisdom.

Just loved it!

Oh, what a crazy ride this book was! Lia's life is turned up-side-down because of her late granma's will. She moves into her granny's apartment complex believing she has to be its manager, but her dear granny had other plans in mind! Even from the beyond, she plays matchmaker, trying to persuade her to give up her current boyfriend Jason and fix her up with Logan, the hot bartender and resident of the apartment complex.

Needless to say, the residents of the apartment complex is an assortment of eccentric characters, while Lia is prone to crazy accidents, involving Long Island Teas, raccoons and mud, to name a few. Not to mention that everybody has something to hide, starting with her boyfriend.

The book is full of humor, crazy antics, and yet deep emotional moments. One moment I laughed out loud, while the next I cried as I felt the emotional turmoil Lia was in. While some will claim that Lia was trully stupid in trying to save her relationship with Jason, I can't help but sympathize with her. She's invested too many years of her life in a relationship and she feels that she has to try and salvage it. But the heart wants what the heart wants, and with a little help from the spirit realm everything comes full circle and questions are answered.

This was my first book by Carol and it really hooked me! I read it in one sitting and I can't wait for the next book in the series!!!

As far as the audiobook goes, I loved the narrator. I hope she narrates Carol's next book as well.

Nobody tells Lia

I LOVED this book!It was so full of family disfunction and fun that I wished it didn't end! Lia is tasked by her Grannanna to live in an apartment and make the residents happy for a year to gain the wealth left to her. Rosie O'Toole was a terrific narrator.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'

Very entertaining

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next one in the series. This book has a little bit of everything; comedy, romance, mystery, paranormal. The narration was superb and kept me engaged. If you're like me you may get a little irritated with the lead female character for being so trusting but it doesn't take away from the story at all. I saw others found the book a tad too long but I never felt like it was long or drawn out. Well done Carol and Rosie!

Keeps You Interested, but a Little Long

If you're looking for a light, easy read this one fits that criteria. It's entertaining and keeps you interested enough to read to the end so you can find out what Jason is hiding, although I did think it dragged on a little longer then needed and felt the ending could have used a little bit more...but other then that, I did enjoy it.

A cute Romance.

Its a fun story not too deep. It misses falling into tropes I hate. But the story is perhaps a bit long and the ghostly aspect over played in the blurb.
Ultimately a nice way to fill your commute.

Fun

The story line is gentle and funny, not necessarily laugh out loud, but definitely involves a lot of quiet chuckles.

It starts with Lia's receiving a bequest from her grandmother, whose ghost adds an additional level of interest and chaos , as she makes no bones of her opinion of Lia's boyfriend, but can't tell Lia why because of certain restrictions on what ghosts are allowed to do, breaking these rules results in Lia's grandmother getting on the wrong side of celestial law.

I enjoyed the fact that much of the story includes people's complex relations, and no i don't really mean everyone jumping into bed with each other as in a farce, or maybe I do. I mean the silly hangups, likes and dislikes etc of a group of people that you quickly start to feel you really know. Poor Lia spends a lot of time trying to make sure the tenants in the apartment complex are happy and getting on together while having no idea of their quirks and friendships, with hilarious results.

The narration is very american, and why not, the narrator has no problem bring the different characters to life .

Having heard this audio book, I will definitely be reading and listening to more books from the author.

Read it, preferably while holding a Long Island Iced Tea, I think you will like it .

I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review
