Publisher's Summary

Behind every good man...is the love of an even better woman. Those were just pretty words before I met Claire Montgomery. Before my fairy queen burst into my life, I didn’t recognize the bastard in my morning mirror - but her love has given me the strength to face the imposter, even embrace him. With Claire at my side, I’m the king I always wanted to be, the Killian Stone I always dreamed of becoming.

Which means for once, I want the mask guarding my secret to stay right where it is.

If you want the grown-up fairy tale... learn to love the dark side.

Profound sentiment. Wish I could get on board with it but the prince in pinstripes has other ideas. Life has been a dream since Killian burst into the ball offering the perfect fit - his heart and mine.

But the treasures he bestows have become his armor, hiding the man I yearn to know.

I refuse to open his little velvet box until he opens himself, letting me see even the dark hallways of his soul...

Fate has always bowed to my bidding.

I should have known it was just picking its time to exact the best revenge, to reveal the secrets that will destroy everything. Without my disguise, am I still the man Claire fell in love with...or another penniless prince vying for an unattainable dream?

Mistress of his ruin?

He always told me to be careful what I wish for. By demanding his truth, have I not only demolished the dream we had...but the man I’ve loved more than any other?

Struggling...

I am struggling to finish this. The female narrator whispers throughout the entire book. I want to continue the series but I will not suffer through if she is narrating.

Love the story, but...

I’m almost half-way through the second book in the series and love Jason Clarke (second book I’ve heard him narrate), but can’t stop PRAYING that Devon Grace is not the female narrator in the rest of the series because it is driving me CRAZY that she whispers the ENTIRE TIME SHE NARRATES!!! It’s awful! I’m going to soldier thru the rest of this book because I’m halfway thru, but if she is the female narrator for the rest - I won’t bother with any more.

Kind of called it.

Yes, they unnecessarily carried out the issue in this book. Tore me apart but it was an all around good book. It was so annoying that it took someone so long to tell him to get over himself and his "identity crisis", that's the problem that took too long. Kind of dumb. Again, female narrator is whispering the whole time, that is just annoying. I do like how they came out with better all around relationships at the end so, yes the conflict was necessary, it was just too long. Still a good listen, good ending to this couples story. Not sure about listening to the next since that is an even longer 2 book series for the next couple. We will see.

Story Ok, but drawn out. Female narration annoying

I enjoyed the first book of this series but for some reason I cannot really stand this second book with the female narration. The female narrator is really distracting to the story. Did I not notice how annoying she was in the first book or did she change the way she narrated in this second book...I'm not sure? I do also feel the story is really drawn out and dramatic for what it really needs to be....a little overkill. I feel like maybe they should have just left Claire and Killian's story to end with the first book and moved on....but I'm going to continue and finish it because I don't like leaving things unfinished once I start. I actually did try moving on to the third book without finishing this book (different storyline/characters), but realized I was missing key things that were meant to intermingle in the new story when the story continues...so here I am finishing it. I am hoping to continue with the series but hope the narration isn't as annoying as this book.

oof

Hoo boy, this one was a little too silly for me. Both lead characters had some really dumb moments. But the main problem was the female narrator who slowly whispered everything. No need to be all seductive and breathy when you're describing an omelet. The male narrator was great though. I had to speed up the narration during the last 30 minutes just to finally get through the book. It was a little unnecessarily long.

Killian and Claire

Happily ever after is not always so Happy.... This was quite different than the first book. It was intriguing, frustrating, and heart felt. Killian was hurting, self deprecating, and plain mean. Claire loves him so much she puts up with everything. It was hard to see her go through all that she did. Claire and Killian show some growth, understanding, and letting go of all the pain. After saying all that, I liked this story. Jason Clarke is fantastic. Devon Grace did the same thing she did in the first book; she whispered a lot and spoke slowly. I liked listening but it was a little frustrating having to up the speed and volume when she narrated.

Claire stop crying!!!

Unhealthy relationships much? For every character and cry baby Claire 😢 is a total pushover who needs sex more than a healthy relationship. Story is a drama roller coaster...long sex scenes and a lot of tears and growls🤣 Enjoy?

Ugh the whispering is unnerving!

Good story, but the female narrator was really hard to listen to, and more cringe inducing than sensual. Jason Clark was amazing as usual.

A perfect happy ever after

Wow this book was so sad at times and in parts I actually cried the ending was one of the best I’d listened too in a while , both Jason Clarke and Devon Grace were excellent I’m looking forward to listening to the next book in this series.
