Publisher's summary

John Gammon is tested to his fullest abilities.

A serial killer plays with Gammon, tormenting him every step of the way.

It seemed like he was enjoying giving Gammon and his team the run-around.

When his peers were clearly not happy, Maxine Twyford was sent to report on the situation.

This was highly irregular. Our hero was beginning to think the writing was on the wall for Bixton station and his own career.

Title is more fitting than intended

I started out enjoying this book. A detective known for solving loads of difficult crimes, a legend to up and comers in the force: we’re in for a good ride, right? Except… it seemed like the detective had “no clue” how to pick up on the most obvious tells the killer left. The red wig was such an obvious disguise that when the team was sent in search of someone with long curly hair, I could have screamed. Anytime an “obvious” hint was provided, it was clearly false, and it really pained me to listen to all of the fumbling that ensued. Also, I felt the “ladies man” trope was a bit overplayed as well. This is a solid “meh” for me. Grant Love was the only saving grace here, love always to him!

Very Good Detective Story

In this story, the antagonist is keeping the DI guessing and going to fake scenes. Our DI is getting extremely frustrated and his bosses are growing unset as the case goes on longer and longer. Narrator does a Great job with the characters and entire storyline.
