Publisher's Summary

From the breakthrough international best-selling author of The Girl in the Ice, a breathtaking novel about a disgraced female detective's fight for redemption. And survival.

Kate Marshall was a promising young police detective when she caught the notorious Nine Elms serial killer. But her greatest victory suddenly became a nightmare.

15 years after those catastrophic, career-ending events, a copycat killer has taken up the Nine Elms mantle, continuing the ghastly work of his idol.

Enlisting her brilliant research assistant, Tristan Harper, Kate draws on her prodigious and long-neglected skills as an investigator to catch a new monster. But there's much more than her reputation on the line: Kate was the original killer's intended fifth victim...and his successor means to finish the job.

Like the new heroine, but ..

There are a couple of examples of shark-jumping, here. Kate Marshall is a pleasant relief from the miserable Erika Foster, whose specialty is going on and on and ON about the death of her husband (it's no wonder she has 2 friends - and she's lucky to have them). Anyway: Bryndza continues with his writer's trick of letting us know all about the perpetrator(s) and having us wanting to point and shout "Behind you !". It's a perfectly viable way to write about a murderer, and he can make it work. For me, there are too many times when he writes a smallish scene and then just walks away from it; leaving me wondering "So what was that all about ?". But, regardless of my carping, I did enjoy "Nine Elms", and will certainly read Bryndza's next Kate Marshall.

A bit gruesome

It was at my full horror level but I did finish it. There are a lot worse out there, I know, and I will read others write by him.

Chilling

Well written full of twists & turn. So gruesome and bloody. Love all the characters and well played. Narrator was marvellous. Well done. More book Robert Bryndza and thank you.

A bit too far fetched to be totally enjoyable.

The story was fast moving, and the plot was quite good, but a lot of the responses and actions just aren't how people behave! It was worth reading, but not so enjoyable as others by this author.

Another Great book!

I could not stop listening to this book. A great thriller with interesting characters and the story kept you engrossed right to the end. The narration was also superb and she brought all the characters to life.

Disappointed

Had to stop listening after half an hour as the narrator was so irritating. She sounded like she was reading to children in a library! I’ve loved all Robert Bryndza’s other books with Erica Foster, the narrator was excellent, she made the characters come to life. I’ll probably have to read the book rather than listen .

Brilliant start to a new series

I have to say that the very best thing about this audio book is the change in narrator. Now, at last, a brilliant author is read by somebody who understands how punctuation affects how prose is read, who is consistent when reading dialogue so that every character has a distinct and recognisable voice and who is very competent at performing accents. This is probably the best 'Robert Bryndza' yet. Do you think there is any chance that all of the 'Erika Foster' books could be re-released read by Kristin Atherton ?

Ridiculous and Cliched

Started well, but then the cliches started, then the absurdities. When the lame writing set in, I called it quits. Time of chucking in the towel: 1 hr 14 minutes.

Kate Marshall

Robert Bryndza is a fantastic author. I read this book just based on the fact he wrote it. I wasn’t disappointed. I was so sad when it finished. I loved the characters and already can’t wait to see what happens next in their lives. Well done Robert. A must read.

Disappointed

I was so looking forward to this series hoping that it is as exciting as the Erika Foster series but I was disappointed. The character Kate Marshall was not endearing, story line is not believable, crimes are excessively gruesome. I will not continue to read/listen to this series.

Another excellent thriller by Robert Bryndza!

What a great author. I loved this book after listening to the Erica Foster series. Kate Marshall did not disappoint! Such a talented author, he nails the whole story from beginning to end. And always chooses outstanding narrators. Love love love thank you!
