Publisher's summary

She saw it coming. She knew it would happen - but no one believed her.

Almost a year after tragedy shattered her family, 16-year-old Paige Thomas can’t break free from her guilt. Her mother ignores her, doting on her clingy little sister, while her father is a barely functioning shell. He hopes a move to the quiet little town of Shadesboro, PA, will help them heal, but Paige doesn’t believe in happiness anymore.

On her first day at school, a chance encounter with a bullied eighth grader reawakens a gift Paige had forgotten and ingratiates her into a pack of local outcasts. For weeks, they’ve been trying to cast a ritual to fulfill their innermost desires, but all they’ve done is waste time. After witnessing Paige touch the Ouija board and trigger a paranormal event, the girls are convinced another try with their new fifth member will finally work.

Once the darkness is unleashed, it’s not long before they learn it will give them exactly what they asked for - whether they want it or not.

Nine Candles

This was a good listen.A family moves to a town away from where they lived when their oldest daughter died. Paige, the next oldest daughter would do anything to have her parents notice her.All they think about is her little sister now.Witchcraft is surely the answer...right? I found the beginning terribly slow.It was so slow I nearly gave up. Marissa DuBois was a very good narrator.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Long and Scary - Terrific combo

I love the idea of our innocent, well thought, wishes can be twisted into something bad. That's exactly what happens in this story. How to stop it when you don't know the rules of the game (or even if there is a game) is the problematic part.
I liked the story a lot, the characters are very interesting and well developed, as are the scenes and descriptions.
It does goes to a point that makes the story a bit too long, but if that doesn't scares you then you will love it.
In my opinion this scary story would be perfect for the a tv serie. I hope it will someday.
The narrator is also amazing, very expressive (I love the younger voices), pauses, and even sounds.

Action packed horror.

As always, I have to state that this book was given to me for free in exchange for a review.
I always like to state that this does not impact my review or my opinion of the book. My reviews are honest and my own opinion of the story, performance, and overall thoughts on the book.

Matthew has a way with words, and I really liked the character development that he created.

The storyline was both terrifying and spooky that happen regularly in each story. The characters are all unique and they all contribute to the story. Matthew does a really great job of describing everything happening, which allows the reader to experience the stories as they are happening on paper.

I myself felt Paige’s anguish as well as her uncertainty as she struggles with the consequences of what she and her friends started. And the quiet moments between characters as they bonded and opened up to one another were just as enjoyable as the more thrilling ones. I stayed up all night reading because I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. I will definitely be on the lookout for more books by Matthew S. Cox and recommend this one to horror fans.

Intense, Creeptastic and Spooktacular

This is one of those books I would recommend for an October read. It is an intense story filled with deep emotion. A group of girls perform a ritual with their own personal desires to be fulfilled. All but one were unaware of the consequences. The tragedies that unfolded afterwards were also very unexpected. It was almost like a wishmaster experience for them. The main character, Paige, had real visions which helped curtail some of the things that would have befallen the girls but this only made things worse. However, Paige had managed to save some people she knew but not all from certain death. I must say that this is a heavy story but entertaining. If you like mysterious, mystical and creepy in your stories this is a good fit.
