Publisher's Summary

At 45, Adrienne Willis must rethink her entire life when her husband abandons her for a younger woman. Reeling with heartache, and in search of a respite, she flees to the small coastal town of Rodanthe, North Carolina, to tend to a friend's inn for the weekend.

But when a major storm starts moving in, it appears that Adrienne's perfect getaway will be ruined - until a guest named Paul Flanner arrives. At 54, Paul has just sold his medical practice and come to Rodanthe to escape his own shattered past. Now, with the storm closing in, two wounded people will turn to each other for comfort - and in one weekend set in motion feelings that will resonate throughout the rest of their lives.

Not a "happily ever after" book!

This struck me as a lovestory without much closure. Left me wanting more. Characters are well developed and it is well written, but this is not your typical "love story" where everyone lives happily ever after. Left me feeling sad. May be a little too close to "real life!"

Simply beautiful.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I'm not going to say much as I don't want to give away any spoilers. However, 'Nights in Rodanthe' was a sweet tale. Beautiful in its complexities, as well as in its simplicity. Mr. Sparks has a gift for telling truly relatable romance fiction that includes all ages. I appreciate how Mr. Sparks can craft a romantic story about people of all ages. Love does not end at 20 as some in Hollywood would have us believe with their quick, romantic comedy movies. As a professional screenwriter, I would be honored to work with Mr. Sparks on a romantic drama. I have seen all the books that have made it to film and have read every book, regardless if it made it to books and stayed there, or moved on to be a beautiful film.

Mr. Sparks you have a gift for the romantic genre and I hope you continue this journey. If, you should ever need a hand, or simply want some fresh blood to write a romantic drama with, I would be delighted and honored to be a support. Though I am sure this note will not make it to you and I am positive your production company provides you with enough supports.

With care and respect,

What does JoBeth Williams bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

There is a quiet strength to JoBeth Williams that only comes from owning your own hurt and growing with that hurt and turning it into something that makes her life thriving.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. And, I did. Twice.

First Nicholas Sparks.....

......book I've read and I loved it. Have spent much time on NC/SC beaches and the descriptions of the weather and the storm are perfect. Not to spoil it for anyone, but the characters are very real and the development of their relationship could not be better. I could not put it down and within a couple of weeks I listened to it a second time. JoBeth Williams is the perfect performer for the story. Beautiful warm slightly southern voice.

Typical Sparks

This was a nice, casual listen. This is a typical Nicolas Sparks novel that it a bit predictable. Still I enjoyed visiting Rodanthe and the characters that are relatable, but I didn't really "invest" in their lives. I have not seen the movie so would be curious if I would be more invested in the characters in the film. JoBeth Williams was just a pinch distracting stretching the Southern accent a little further than necessary in my opinion.

Cheesy but Entertaining

What disappointed you about Nights in Rodanthe?

A nice quick read but so much cheese that it gave me a stomach ache! A typical Sparks novel full of cliché love scenes, corny dialogue and the untimely death of a character just important enough to hopefully get the reader emotionally connected to the story. Ending was predictable but bittersweet none the less. This book is a great reality break for a few hours and does keep you turning pages if you are looking for light entertainment. Recommended for Adults due to slight sexual content.

Narrator wasn't good

What character would you cut from Nights in Rodanthe?

Characters are are fine and necessary to the plot.

Any additional comments?

Very disappointed in the audio version of the book.
