Publisher's summary

When a bolt of lightning strikes 17-year-old Viranda’s home during a severe thunderstorm, she awakens, dazed, to find a strange blood-covered man sitting calmly on her bed. This man claims to be Cillian Balor, The Night Warrior, the same character Viranda herself had created in her novel.

Cillian believes Viranda to be the Goddess of Fate from his homeworld of Lingard. However, Viranda claims there is no Goddess of Fate in Lingard; she should know, she did create it, after all. When other characters from her book begin to appear in her world, Viranda fears what would happen if the likes of Finn Razorclaw, a deadly werewolf and the archrival of Cillian, or the feared witches of The Black Cat Clan arrived, as well. With the help of her best friend, Bee, and a protection gnome named Mo, Viranda and Cillian must discover the secret to Cillian’s existence and prevent catastrophic damage by powerful supernatural beings.

A Fresh Take on a Well-Loved Genre

A brilliant new use of traditional storytelling tropes. You will recognize traditional themes of magic, good vs evil, a unwilling but genuine heroine. But you will not guess what will happen next.

Jordan puts a great new twist on the story of a writer creating their own world. I really enjoyed the fresh takes on all the traditional themes.

Epic action, unique world building, and twists and turns aplenty!

Night Warrior is an excellent piece of fantasy storytelling. Blending in many established fantasy elements while subverting the tropes of the genre. Expertly paced, intense, and thought provoking.

A delightful adventure with a big heart

Are you looking for The Neverending Story meets An Absolutely Remarkable Thing with female leads and great humor? You found it. Buckle up and get ready for a story whose characters are self aware, self deprecating and completely quotable. I was hooked from chapter 1 and consistently surprised by the turns this story took. The author, Jordan, creates a world with characters you feel like you’ve known forever and don’t want to leave behind. Do yourself a favor and give this one a listen on Audible- the narrator is engaging and exciting to listen to as she navigates a unique set of character voices. I have added this to our Book Club list and can’t wait to talk about it with a group of people.

Fun YA Portal Fantasy!

I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a phenomenal job! This book was entertaining from start to finish.

This book is a YA portal fantasy about a girl named Viranda who's life takes a crazy turn after a climbing accident in a mine in Hawaii. After having her elbow reconstructed, one of her only hobbies left is writing. Once night she gets an urge to start writing a new story, but this is no ordinary writing session. She becomes entranced and sits writing for six hours straight, not stopping until she literally passes out. When he wakes up, a bolt of lightning has hit her house, striking her computer. A man named Cillian Balor, The Night Warrior from the book she had written, is standing in her bedroom. He is NOT happy to be there! Viranda and Cillian quickly realize that he is not the only person from his world that has been transported into hers, and there are some VERY bad people coming after them. Very bad people who also practice dark magic.

Cillian also tells her that she is falsely named after Viranda, the goddess of fate in his world, a fact that she argues because she did not write in a goddess of fate in her story.

As this story unfolds, we get long action sequences between the good guys and the bad guys, which I loved! There is magic, witches, fairies, a protection gnome, other magic creatures, a cursed prince. Viranda (who is only 17) ends up with a crush on Cillian but the woman she wrote in the story to be his love is also there, so she becomes jealous of a relationship that she created. In the end there is a fight with a plot twist, and we finally learn Viranda's connection to the goddess of their world.

I thought this was a great YA fantasy audiobook! It actually reminded me a lot of Shadow Dance by CK Andersson, except written for a younger audience. Great job to this author and the narrator!

Fantastic!

I just finished Night Warrior by Jordan J. Scavone and narrated by Elizabeth Elieson. It is a fascinating tale about a young writer whose creations somehow manage to come to her own reality. An honestly terrifying concept to some, I know I would never want some of my writing creations to show up. This fascinating tale drags all the usual fantasy tropes, heros, werewolves, magical swords and the like in to the real world, leading to some interesting interactions.
As stated before Night Warrior is an interesting tale of fantasy well written with characters who are certainly interesting enough that you want to stay invested in the story to see what happens to them. There is humor, heartbreak, and adventure that will make this an exciting story for any fan of the fantasy genre.
Now I listened to Night Warrior, as the author sent me a copy of the audiobook some time ago and I just dragged myself through my backlog enough to finally sit down and enjoy the tale. The narration was excellent. Elizabeth Elieson’s attempt at giving us voices that fit each character is well done. It is always good to enjoy an audiobook read by someone who allows you to feel the characters as you hear them.
Night Warrior is a must read. I also suggest listening to it!

really 3.5 but I rounded up

Not a bad book, I overall enjoyed it. i listened to it as an Audiobook. Some of the battle scenes were a bit long winded for my taste. It was a fun premise of the main characters fictional world mixing with her real world. I'll be heading to check out Jordan's other titles for younger kids.

Engaging

I would give this book six stars if I could. The Night Warrior is a YA urban fantasy that pulls the reader in and doesn’t let go. Jordan has a way of making the story feel familiar and unique all at once. At times it felt like I was reading about characters from a long-forgotten fairytale I hadn’t thought about since childhood. It felt familiar and comforting while the story had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. The character relationships were done amazingly well, and I loved the arcs all the characters went on. I listened to the audio book version of the book the narrator did such an incredible job of brining the characters to life and holding the reader’s attention through the whole book. I highly recommend this book.

Absolutely Amazing!

I had already read the physical copy before listening to the audiobook, but still found myself engaged in the story and swept away in a wonderful fantasy. Original and fun concept with a very talented narrative guiding you through this tale of knights, witches, and werewolves made for a fun and entertaining experience. Though this is a YA book, adults will enjoy the story as well. I loved every minute of this production. A high quality audiobook and I cannot praise the performance enough. She truly brought every unique character to life with nice distinction. Highly recommend
