Roberta Paxton had a pleasant, challenging job, a man who loved her, and a host of good friends, but anxiety gnawed at her, at the back of her mind, at the edge of her vision, something was threatening her... something or someone. She tried to talk about it, but nobody wanted to listen, not even her 13-year-old sister, Tobie. Roberta had had these premonitions before, Tobie reminded her. She was just being paranoid.
But there was someone watching. Deep in the Tahoe forest, emerging only to stalk his prey, to watch and listen, to plot his final move, a vicious killer waited. Each glimpse of Roberta fired his need, but still he waited.
Until he saw Tobie...

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely. As with all Carol's books - I've read them for years in paperback then enjoyed them again on my kindle - just a great thriller with characters you can relate to.Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes, because she sets the scene so well. You feel as if you're right there.Which character – as performed by Jennette Selig – was your favorite?
I liked them all, I thought Jennette did a great job.Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I had already read it but so enjoyed having it read to me. No extreme reaction, just tense and nervous for the heroine.Any additional comments?
A wonderful book by a great author. I highly recommend listening to it!Can't get enough of Carol Davis Luce

The narrator does a good job. Her pace is perfect. She does not go to great lengths to "perform" the characters, which is fine for the way this book is written. For me, a well-written, good story pulls me into a zone, and I felt if I could turn my head quickly enough, I might catch a glimpse of one of the characters in the shadows of my bedroom. Unfortunately, several places where the post-production people spliced the tape (I don't pretend to know the technical lingo) poorly, and the words, where spliced, are smashed together which pulled me out of that zone. I will definitely look to see if this author has published other books.
I'm an avid reader, and it's always a joy to discover a talented "new" author!
Terrific Psychological Thriller!

Seriously, the makings of a good mystery were here but I cannot believe an editor ever got near it. Naval gazing, repetition, superfluous POVs from secondary characters, long detailed landscape descriptions, more repetition, more landscapes, more naval gazing. It was mind numbing! There were some serious plot problems as well -- the dumbest, most incompetent police detectives EVER chief among them. The copyright date 2012 on the Audible site is misleading as hell.. I couldn't figure out why no one used a cell phone when their circumstances became dire. Further investigation reveals an original copyright date of 1992. No wonder police procedures and technology come across as outdated.
I liked the hero and heroine and I totally enjoyed the monstrous, extra scary villain.
Narrator Jennette Selig did a good job -- a yeoman job. Her style is dry and no nonsense and it works well for suspense. I am experimenting with Audible's whispersync price cuts. I got the ebook and the audiobook for about $3.
I thought it would never end!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Maybe a decent story that made sense from beginning to end. Characters that blended together better than cottage cheese. A begining & end I could understand. Forget the attempt at a love story ending.....life just doens' t happen like that, Even the attempt at psychic involvement was poor, but what topped off all the worse was the monster with rage character. Man....hang it up..What do you think your next listen will be?
I do not know but it won't be one by this authorWho would you have cast as narrator instead of Jennette Selig?
Narrator had nothing to do with bad bookYou didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
