Publisher's Summary

Bride McTierney has had it with men. They're cheap, self-centered, and never love her for who she is. But though she prides herself on being independent, deep down, she still yearns for a knight in shining armor. She just never expected her knight in shining armor to have a shiny coat of fur.

Deadly and tortured, Vane Kattalakis isn't what he seems. Most women lament that their boyfriends are dogs. In Bride's case, hers is a wolf. A Were-Hunter wolf. Wanted dead by his enemies, Vane isn't looking for a mate. But the Fates have marked Bride as his. Now he has three weeks to either convince Bride that the supernatural is real or he will spend the rest of his life neutered - something no self-respecting wolf can accept. But how does a wolf convince a human to trust him with her life when his enemies are out to end his? In the world of the Were-Hunters, it really is dog-eat-dog. And only one alpha male can win.

Critic Reviews

"More character driven than her previous Dark-Hunter novels, Kenyon's latest is a nice change of pace yet still chock-full of the quirky humor, complex fantasy, and searing passion that her readers love. This book's success, however, appropriately lies with Bride and Vane. It's been said of Kenyon that she knows men, but she really knows women and all our secret fears and hidden desires." Was expecting fluff and got substance! Good story.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. Interesting and fun.

What did you like best about this story?

The story felt real. Complex characterization.

Which character – as performed by Fred Berman – was your favorite?

I had to like Furry. Her veterinarian father was intriguing. Snotty sister a close third. Come to think of it many of the secondary characters were interesting.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was sweet, straightforward and endearing. I'm not a sentimentalist and often roll my eyes over sappy story lines.

Any additional comments?

My first book by this author. Bought it on sale because it looked light and fun. it was that but more. It's a "feel good" book without being sugary or simplistic. Story had a few twists and turns. Characters were developed and dimensional. Delivered a solid good story that was well written. Don't overlook this one if you like a straightforward story that does not leave you feeling depressed or icky. The whole fantasy supernatural thing supported the plot and was not the main feature. It was a simple and charming love story with a bit of adventure and intrigue tossed in. Really good for driving or doing chores. I liked it and you don't need to enjoy this genre to find the story charming.

Good Boy!

What made the experience of listening to Night Play the most enjoyable?

I can't stress enough how good a job Fred Berman does reading these books. I especially love the way he reads Simi and Ash and I hope to hear from them in every book. He does a great job bringing every character to life.

What did you like best about this story?

I really enjoyed the fact that this novel involved a wolf instead of a dark hunter in the lead role. I also enjoyed how the author found another non-typical but completely unique female lead. When I know a series has 20 plus books in it I worry that at some point the new creative ideas will give out and it will become reading the same book over and over again. With this author I don't have to worry about that I am blown away by each book.

Have you listened to any of Fred Berman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, he is awesome. I can't stand that someone else narrated the first couple books in this series but I am so grateful that someone made the switch to Mr. Berman.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Vane meeting Bride's family.

Any additional comments?

Since I wasn't specifically asked I will just say that yes, this book is worth a credit.

VANE! VANE! VANE!! Need I saw more?

What made the experience of listening to Night Play the most enjoyable?

Narrater Fred Berman did a wonderful job with the character Vane. His voice really became the character and the emotional level was right on the money.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Vane! Such a strong man and when he meets Bride...oh my gosh! What woman wouldn't want someone like Vane to walk into her life and be a real hero! I Love him as much as I love Asheron and Zerek!

Have you listened to any of Fred Berman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Oh yes! He does a great job each time. He is one of my favorite narraters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes and that's just what I did! I spent all day in front of my computer with this book! Also put this one to disk and mp3 to take with me!

Any additional comments?

I love the whole Dark-Hunters series! Sherrilyn Kenyon does a wonderful job with each story. You will find yourself cheering for one character or another, but that is to be expected! These are books worth buying!

Victoria

How romantic! Can't wait to find out who Furry's mate is. I listened to Bad Moon Rising and this fell right in line with it. Loved the narrator. Looking forward to more. Enjoy, I did.

Loved it in print, and Loved it in audio!

One of my all time favorites brought to life brilliantly by narrator, Fred Berman.
Vane and his brother Fury are absolutely hilarious with each other, but lethal to all foes. Vane's love for Bride, a BBW (big, beautiful woman), allows him to see her in a way no other man ever has; Of course, Vane is so much more than a man and Night Play is so much more than just another paranormal romance.

I love this book

Night Play as one of the best books I've ever read. Not only does the hero, Vane, love the heroine, Bride,as she is, being a plus-sized woman. But he is very happy with her and doesn't want her to change he doesn't try to make her feel bad or push the buttons to make her change who she is he loves her simply as she is. I love the characters and the storyline. I love seeing characters from other books in this book.

My favorite Dark Hunter/Ware Hunter book!

This has long been my favorite Dark Hunter/Ware Hunter book. I won’t spoil it for you, but if your love displays even half of the traits of Vane...count yourself lucky!

Good, not Great

I did enjoy this book. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read/listened to the previous books in this series. There were a few things that I was lost about and I didn’t know some of the characters as intimately as I would have if I had listened to more of the series. The story had a interesting plot and didn’t really stall much. This is probably the tamest sexual content I have heard in a shifter novel, in a long time, so if strong sexual content bothers you, this may be just the book for you. Like I wrote, in the title, this book is good but it is not a book that swept me off my feet or that I will listen to again.
