Publisher's summary

New Gods from the author Graham McQuade is the first in the Johnson trilogy.

An unimaginable discovery in a cave deep within the Rhône Alps starts a chain of events that has the heart of Europe paralyzed by a seemingly uncontrollable virus.

Margaret (Gwendolyn Johnson) and Jon (Wallis) are tasked with solving the mystery and embark on a horrific and breathtaking journey which takes them from Europe to Africa.

A story of friendship, but at its heart a story of courage and determination in the face of bigotry, power, and adversity.

The Best Audiobook I listened to in 2020!

The best audiobook I listened to in 2020! A whip-smart, heart-felt, action-packed thriller that is a non stop thrill ride, like a roller coaster with no slow spots. McQuade is writer whose skill is evident - this is the first book of his I've read or listened to; it won't be the last. The narration was well done, also and kept pulling me into the story. Looking forward to the next audiobook in the series!

Jaw Dropping Evil Conspiracy

A team of cave divers descends into the deepest cave of the Rhone-Alps where they discover larger than life bodies of 8 deceased beings.  As they catalog their findings the unthinkable occurs setting off what could be the deadliest global event ever.   As the virus pops up in Africa, then France, the team of Margaret Johnson and Jon Wallis are faced with not only figuring out what the virus is but how to stop it.  It is their work that brings to light a life-threatening, economically devastating, and evil conspiracy.

The author Graham McQuade delivers a powerful book that captures the listener’s attention and holds it to the end.  I was surprised as the first section of the book gave a different feel for what to expect, then it took an entirely different turn all within a few pages. Several times the plot twists were staggering moments.  Rich with details and dialog, McQuade delivers realistic and relatable characters faced with terrifying moments.  Additionally, his character development was solidly done.

The narrator, Walt Allen, did splendidly in performing the book.  He interjected the right amount of emotion, strength and animation into his performance.  Each character was authentic and genuine in their personality and actions.  It was almost as if Allen donned each person when he spoke.

The story was well done with short chapters that were packed with action and each significant to the story. The ending was well done leaving the listener with the desire to where Johnson and Wallis go next.  I for one cannot wait for the next book.

Interesting read

This was such an interesting read.

Taking our current pandemic and adding a few twists and turns along the way.
I loved the characters and their passion to uncover the truth about the virus and its origin. The storyline was believable and I was intrigued to find out what would happen.

If I'm honest, I believe this book could benefit with a little bit more editing. There are a lot of chapters and some of them are quite wordy, with irrelevant descriptions. I found myself zoning out at some stages throughout the book.
That being said the narrator did an amazing job.

Overall I'm glad I listened to the audiobook.
