Losing the love of my life the summer before we were set to go off to college together destroyed me beyond repair. James committed suicide weeks before we were to start our lives together, leaving me broken and haunted by the "what ifs" of life. There just wasn’t any way I could attend the college we chose together, and I was certain there wasn’t another option at what most would call last minute. When another University agreed to take me, I packed up my car and headed to the Sunshine state. I needed to get as far away from home as I possibly could - reinvent myself, protect my heart and concentrate on college while never allowing anyone inside the fortress I’d built around me.

But Brandon wasn’t just anyone....

Brandon wasn’t your average college boy; he’d been there, done that and had no time for childish play. His cool, confident mask hid a man with deep wounds of his own. He was in college for one reason and one reason alone. He was there for his degree and to learn the life lessons his father set out in his will for him - a condition required to gain his legacy. Women were trouble, a distraction he didn’t want or need. His bed was open for a few hours, but never anything more.

But he hadn’t met me yet.

Can two strangers with hardened hearts find peace in each other? Can Lilly prove not all women are heartless bitches? Can Brandon break through all the walls Lilly has firmly in place around herself and her heart?

100% Must read! This story is eye opening!

At first glance I thought this was just another romance novel. After diving into this book I soon realized this is a powerful message about suicide and the people it affects! Please listen/read this story to all the high schoolers/ college students in your life.

An amazing story

This book made me feel all the feels. The story itself is very well written, and the way it was narrated truly made me think I was hearing the inner dialogue of the main character. Do yourself a favor and listen to this Audible book, and have a box of tissues nearby.

Great short story about a tough topic

From the first few paragraphs this story had me captivated. It was decently written, and packed enough details to keep me wanting more. The narrator did an amazing job of really captivating the main character's personality. You could really identify with her struggles.

My one criticism is that I kind of wish the timelines of Lillian's life didn't move so quickly. I felt like an opportunity was missed to really impact the reader. Especially during the first portion of the book. Overall, I soaked up this book as quickly as possible. And I'm left reflecting on it wishing there was more.

Susan Meachen tackles a really big subject. One not told enough. Mental health in our teens is so understudied and not understood. Listening to Lillian's exploration of what happened and her journey was important. I love the message this book sends out, and I hope that it has helped at least one person.

Superb!

I never imagined that I would enjoy an audio book as much as I did. The narrator's voice is very appealing and soothing, which is why I am extremely pleased with listening to this book. I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline and am looking forward to reading/listening to more of this particular author's books. Job well done!!
