Publisher's summary

Empowering strategies for anyone who works with children and teens on the spectrum.

Internationally best-selling writer and autist Temple Grandin joins psychologist Debra Moore in presenting nine strengths-based mindsets necessary to successfully work with young people on the autism spectrum. Examples and stories bring the approaches to life, and detailed suggestions help listeners put them to practical use.

Temple Grandin shares her own personal experiences and anecdotes from parents and professionals who have sought her advice, while Debra Moore draws on more than three decades of work as a psychologist with kids on the spectrum and those who love and care for them. So many people support the lives of these kids, and this book is for all of them: teachers; special education staff; mental health clinicians; physical, occupational, and speech therapists; parents; and anyone interacting with autistic children or teens.

rich content. challenging narration.

i struggled with the narrator's reading. the content is good, and relevant for me. i have a teenage boy on the spectrum who challenges every step of the way. the book ends looking at him as a functioning adult. most parents are challenged concerning this possibility if reading this book. I may have to review this book repeatedly, it's insightful. adjusting the playback speed helps.

Great read

Useful scenarios to help a great number of people. Eye opening. I’m definitely going to read this book again. It is worth it. Please read if you’re a parent or caregiver who supports autism awareness. Thank you for this masterpiece

The voice reading is relevant!

I am fascinated with divergent thinkers, this book creates autism as victims! I listened to the whole thing, reminding myself I can better work with all kids. I came away with pathos.Perhaps some people like church ladies, i am reading “visual learners “and thoroughly enjoying the content, in fact, I ordered 25 copies for our school!

Helpful information and perspective

It took a bit to get use to the narration and it felt very bland. Granted the presentation isn’t horrible—it’s just different. This is the first audio book that I really took notes on because there is so much great information. I think even if someone were to skim through this book they would find something of value. I like how when information is presented with examples. There was also a big flag for me in parts about how fathers are treated differently when trying to seek help as a caregiver to a child with autism and there is a disparity here. I’m definitely interested in reading more from Temple Grandin to gain further understanding.

Valuable insights

Insights are valuable. Pandemic insights might not be applicable post pandemic. Some laws not applicable in other countries, but values and guidelines remain the same.
Ideal for entire team involved with the child.
