I've listened to this audiobook perhaps four times over the last several years, and it delights me every time. I wish Emma Thompson would narrate more books, preferably including a full memoir of her own. Her voice is beautiful, her delivery delicious. And she is remarkably insightful and emotionally wise. This book alternates between being a diary of the experience of filming Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, and a reading of Nanny McPhee Returns. Her character expression in the story is fabulous, and the story itself is both funny and uplifting. What I enjoy even more is the education she gives us about the technical aspects of filmmaking, and the physical and emotional effort it requires of everyone involved. Her understanding and love of human nature make the whole thing a fascinating and joyful listen.

A brilliant diary of the making of a movie hitched to a delightful and engaging story written and narrated by the inimitable Emma Thompson. What’s not to love and listen to again and again? Highly recommend for any reader who has forgotten how special it was to be read to, and for those who have always enjoyed reading aloud for/to others. After more than 3/4 of a century as a dedicated, almost incessant/obsessive reader, I am now a real fan girl of this medium. And long may Emma Thompson contribute to it!

A beyond-stellar Experience which I wanted to never end!

Ms Thompson is a joy to listen to, and although she is addressing young people on one level, she is also addressing us older folks in a very kind loving way!

The joy of McPhee

Really enjoyed listening to this story - it was short and very easy to follow - great for early gym sessions. It was a mix from the 1st and 2nd movies and I especailly enjoyed the "off-screen" narration of Emma Thompson - I looked forward to all her commentary just as much as the story. I loved the "up-beat" feel of Emma's narration - she kept me wanting to listen (and work out!)

Nanny McPhee - Great listening - so much fun

Would you listen to Nanny McPhee and The Big Bang again? Why?

Maybe. It's a strange book in that there is the story and, interspersed with it, is Emma Thompson's diaries from the filming. I think that switch back and forth can be hard for some, but my kids actually liked it. For myself, I will say that I preferred the diaries to the actual story.

If you’ve listened to books by Emma Thompson before, how does this one compare?

Again, it is hard to compare because of the format. However, I loved that there is just so much honesty from Emma Thompson in this.

What does Emma Thompson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Honestly, I don't think anyone could read this story (or diary) like Thompson.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Ummm.....there is a film of this book.

A fun listen for fans of Emma Thompson
