My name is Calla Price, and I’m drowning. My new world is a dark, dark ocean, and I’m being pulled under by secrets. Can I trust anyone? I don’t know anymore. The lies are spirals. They twist and turn, binding me with their thorns and serpentine tongues. And just when I think I have it figured out, everything is pulled out from under me. I’m entangled in the darkness. But the truth will set me free.

Story
It once seemed so easy to Prince Rhen, the heir to Emberfall. Cursed by a powerful enchantress to repeat the autumn of his 18th year over and over, he knew he could be saved if a girl fell for him. But that was before he learned that at the end of each autumn, he would turn into a vicious beast hell-bent on destruction. That was before he destroyed his castle, his family, and every last shred of hope.

Amber wakes up in a hospital. She can't move. She can't speak. She can't open her eyes. She can hear everyone around her, but they have no idea. Amber doesn't remember what happened, but she has a suspicion her husband had something to do with it. Alternating between her paralyzed present, the week before her accident, and a series of childhood diaries from 20 years ago, this brilliant psychological thriller asks: Is something really a lie if you believe it's the truth?

In this deeply scary and intensely unnerving debut novel, Jake and a woman known only as "The Girlfriend" are on a drive to visit his parents at their secluded farm. But when Jake leaves "The Girlfriend" stranded at an abandoned high school, what follows is a twisted unraveling of the darkest unease, an exploration into psychological frailty, and an ending as suspenseful as The Usual Suspects and as haunting as Misery.

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: Become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway.

Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Publisher's Summary
Save me, and I'll save you.... My name is Calla Price. I'm 18 years old, and I'm one half of a whole. My other half - my twin brother, my Finn - is crazy. I love him. More than life, more than anything. And even though I'm terrified he'll suck me down with him, no one can save him but me. I'm doing all I can to stay afloat in a sea of insanity, but I'm drowning more and more each day. So I reach out for a lifeline. Dare Dubray. He's my savior and my Antichrist. His arms are where I feel safe, where I'm afraid, where I belong, where I'm lost. He will heal me, break me, love me, and hate me. He has the power to destroy me. Maybe that's okay. Because I can't seem to save Finn and love Dare without everyone getting hurt. Why? Because of a secret. A secret I'm so busy trying to figure out that I never see it coming. You won't either.

Who speaks only three words at a time?
There is a possibility that this is a good book, but the narrator is so aggravating that it takes from the book. The constant pausing between every third word, who speaks like that? I can't tell if she's just trying to add effect or if she's a moron.

Not enough to continue
I've read enough books to know when something doesn't click for me. Articulating what or why doesn't matter to me anymore. Suffice it to say, it kinda meandered slowly until the last hour of the story to FINALLY get me interested. I needed something to KEEP me intrigued along the way, and this didn't do it. And, yes, there was a cliff hanger.... I don't care what happens next. But there was a preview of the second book, so I found out a little. But what made matters worse? The female narrator, Simone, was an excrutiatingly slow talker. I had to increase the narration speed to at least 1.25 to get thru it. She also needed to keep better hydrated, because she had a HORRIBLE clicking (dry tongue) sound in her speech much of the time. It was very annoying. I just don't think I can listen to any more. Too many books in my TBR pile I need to tackle.

Incredible writing and a great work of fiction
You know how you finish a book and it blows you away so much that you can't really process any thoughts or feelings right away? You kinda have to collect yourself? Your mind might be spinning and you're still scratching your head? But you know in your gut that it was ONE HELL OF A BOOK. Yep. That's Nocte.
After seeing so many positive reviews, I had to take the plunge. I knew I was in for a ride just by the book blurb alone, but it was so much more. This book made me feel - concern, sadness, connection, loss, frustration, excitement. It made me think and wonder.
I felt for Calla. She has so much on her plate to deal with - her family lives in a Funeral Home, her brother and twin struggles with a mental illness, and she feels she has to be strong for everyone as she tries to figure out whether to venture out alone for college or to stick by her brother's side to make sure he's ok. I totally understood that pressure she felt and how conflicted she was about it all.
And then there was Dare DuBray...such a HOTT name. There's just something about him that makes me want to know more, and Calla felt the same pull to him. It starts with 20 questions, and as Calla and Dare get to know each other, we see how sincere, sweet, and extremely sexy he is.
"He kisses me with abandon, like he’s not afraid of the consequences, like it’s only him and me, and there’s nothing else around us."
But the most intense character for me was Finn. Man, did Courtney Cole do such a fantastic job at writing this character so well. So much so, that the reader truly knows what it's like to be in his mind. The journey takes us through Finn's struggle, with such a level of honesty and validity. I was incredibly impressed. And the relationship Calla and Finn have - much more than just siblings, but twins, one half of a whole - sucked me in further.
"I’m doing all I can to stay afloat in a sea of insanity, but I’m drowning more and more each day."
As I rode the roller coaster with them, I had no idea the ride would come to a stop where it did. The whole book, I was always five steps ahead trying to figure out what secret Calla was missing...that one she was so busy figuring out that she never saw it coming. Yeah, neither did I. Two words: MIND BLOWN.
Both the narrators were incredible with this book. Stephen Dexter really brought Finn's character to life and interpreted the phrasing so well, these chapters really sucked me into the book even more.
Congratulations to Courtney Cole for such an incredible first book in this trilogy. I can't pick up the second book fast enough. I'm addicted. I NEED TO KNOW MORE!!!

the story was good, as far as I got. but the voice of the female narrator was so bad. her cadence and tonality was like nails on a chalkboard. I only got a few chapters in and had to stop. I hope this book gets rerecorded with another female narrator so it can be enjoyable

A bucket load of mind twisting
Well this was just a bucket load of mind f**kery....
Calla Price is about to head off to University but is feeling anxious about it because she wants to go to the same one as her twin brother Finn who has mental health issues and needs her.
They live with their parents at a funeral home as their dad is an undertaker.
Then another character comes into the story Dare DuBray, a very handsome British accented boy that Calla is crushing on.
After a family tragedy things seem to be spinning out of control and to be honest, I have no idea what the heck is going on. So I guess I need to read the next book....
