Publisher's Summary

From Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh comes the first thrilling novella in the Rogue Justice series.

When Detective Seth Harding responds to shots being fired, he faces a familiar sight: a double homicide. However, he is shocked to find a young boy chained in the basement. The terrified child refuses to speak, but Seth knows he is the key to something sinister.

Reluctantly, Seth calls the only social worker he trusts with the traumatized boy - his wife. Carly is recovering from her own trauma suffered on the job, but she can't turn away from this case, not from another child in trouble. With torrential rain bearing down, threatening to isolate their little town in a killer flood, Seth and Carly know the best way to keep the boy safe from danger is to take him back to their farm.

But danger is as relentless as the storm. And it's following them all the way home.

New novella from Melinda Leigh

Melinda Leigh follows her four Rogue River Novellas series with the first book in her new Rogue Justice series. The two series have exactly the same characters and the same setting, so Rogue Justice series is merely a continuation of Rogue River. The novellas are set in the real sparsely populated Rogue River and Rogue Valley region of southern Oregon. However, Rogue County and the name of the small town are fictitious. The protagonists are married couple Seth and Carly Harding. Carly comes from the leading family in the county where her dad was sheriff and her brothers are in law enforcement. Her husband is a detective. Her mom is the stabilizing force in the family and in the county.

The series are very family focused, but the crimes are real and horrible. Think of the two series as solid police procedurals with strong elements of mystery and suspense, and also with a strong family flavor. I enjoy Melinda Leigh's Rogue novellas and recommend these 3 hour audio books. Kate Rudd does a fine job of narrating.

Twisted Truth

Why is there only one chapter in this book? I can't fully rate the book until I get to read the rest and I love her books!

Melinda Leigh is on my automatic purchase list!

Melinda Leigh is on my automatic purchase list! I've listened to her stories since I discovered them Amazon Kindle Unlimited and look forward to each release. This is the first story in the Rogue Justice series. You can read it as a standalone, but to get to know the characters I recommend reading her other novels.

Awesome read and Awesome narration..

Wow! There was just sooo much going on in this novella; a double murder and a 6 year old held in a basement in chains. Whew, Seth and Carly had a serious case going on here. Not to mention that this whole story was taking place in a horrible storm. I don't think anyone was ever dry, especially not during an outdoor mud fight between Seth and the 2 bad guys. My favorite part was when one baddie, who had a knife in his hand, said to Seth "you don't want to get in a knife fight with me," and Seth said something like "you're right, I don't," and then Seth shot him two times in the chest. Then the next baddie was about to shoot Seth and Prince Eric, the pygmy goat, charged the baddie and hit him right in backs of both legs, giving Seth time to jump him. There was just so much excitement through this whole story. A couple of things left unanswered but they weren't that important, and they might get answered in the next novella, Truth Be Told, with Zane and Stevie.

I've loved all the stories about Solitude, Oregon. It's always nice to see the regulars, Seth, Carly, their daughter Brianna, Carly's mother and brother, Patsy and Bruce.

There's never any kind of sex in Melinda Leigh's novellas but the stories are so good there doesn't have to be.

As to the narration: Kate Rudd? What can I say? I love, love, love her narrations. Best with voices and emotions.

Yowsers! What a read!

As always Melinda Leigh delivered one heck of an action packed story. There were moments where I was like, what is she doing!? Lol

I love Seth and Carly. I think they’re my favorites out of this group. Well, back up, Patsy is my favorite, they’re my favorite couple.

When murder and mayhem show up both Seth and Carly are tossed into the middle. Carly’s brother, Bruce, a newly appointed deputy is in the thick of it as well. Two dead bodies, a boy chained up in the basement and a storm make the nights sleepless and a little overwhelming. The hunt is on for the person, or persons responsible for the murders and the boys treatment.

When that trouble follows Seth and Carly home, things take a turn for the worse. But somehow, as they always do, they manage to kick butt.... too bad the troubles not over.
