Publisher's summary

Sometimes, the legends are true.

When eccentric billionaire Ellis Holloway hires renegade marine biologist Sam Aston to investigate the legend of a monster in a remote Finnish lake, Aston envisions an easy paycheck and a chance to clear his gambling debts. But he gets much more. There is something terrible living beneath the dark waters of Lake Kaarme and it is hungry.

As the death toll mounts, Aston faces superstitious locals, a power-hungry police chief, and a benefactor's descent into madness as he races to find the legendary beast of the lake.

It was just ok...

I had higher expectations for a good thriller. The character development and storyline was pretty basic with not alot of depth.

The narrator did an average job on the accents but would have been better off not trying.

Monster, Mayhem and Murder

A "fun" monster/mystery book that doesn't let you get bored. The characters are well enough developed to make you care- and the monster is revealed craftily throughout the story. The author does a good job bringing in different cultures and interesting scenes. The narrator is more than adequate at pulling off a not-so-easy cast of characters.

Short and Fun Adventure!

I go through this book in a weekend, but that doesn't make it any less fun to listen to. The narrator did a great job with most of the voices and accents, and while the story was a little cliche and something right out of a movie, it was still an exciting ride.

Don't expect too much from this short listen and you might just find yourself wondering what comes next!

Things that go bump in the deep!

action-adventure, monster, horror, suspense, mystery, myths-legends, audiobook

A rough around the edges protagonist, a looney gazillionaire, an ice water evil monster and more make this one scary adrenaline rush of a read! No spoilers, the publisher's blurb gives hints and there is no way to really prepare for this one. But keep the lights on!
Jeffrey Kafer gives this one of his best performances in his usual understated way.

Another Monster in a Lake

This is a formulaic story of a monster in a lake. It is a Finnish lake and there are Nazis in the book, but I miss the humor that is present in David Wood's Dane and Bones' adventures. The narrator is very good.

Good story; horrible narration.

The story was good, but the distraction was the Bostonian accent sometimes used for the Australian??? At other times, there was no accent at all. It sometimes pulled you out of the story.

❤️

I’m a pretty big fan of David Wood. I really enjoy his books for the most part. This one requires more of an open mind than most. The story was a bit of a stretch. I was unsure how the authors would pull everything together. But it was done well imo. Not a fan of the end.

Wonderful performance by the narrator. Very well done.

Fantastic story, well read

I was given this free for an unbiased review.
I thought the story line was great! Kind of a cross between Lake Placid and Jaws with a completely cool and original alternative history type twist. It was fast paced and exiciting. I was interested all the way to end, and will be watching/hoping for another installment.
Jeffery Kafer was also great, although his Aussie accent could use just a bit of practice, it did not in anyway take away from the story. On a side note I’d love to hear Jeffery read Green Eggs and Ham in the same intense voice he uses in this and his other books. It would be a scream!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The book was good, but not great. Since I was driving while I listened, I would not say it was a waste of time.

Best book involving a dinosaur since Jurassic Park

My review of David Wood's and Alan Baxter's "Primordial" has been long overdue. However, that's what no Wi-Fi and no data usage in Spain will do to you. The beginning of the book had me worried that Ashton was too chauvinistic to like, but his doucheness quickly faded as the story progressed. Speaking of story progression, Wood and Baxter did a wonderful job of setting the pace. An extra kudos to whichever one of them thought of the motion sensor camera and flash. It added an extra bit of tension that kept my wife and I at the edge of our seat as we entered the final stages of the book. So on a scale of "so bad I never want to listen to a book again" to "the greatest story ever," this one ranks as "the greatest story involving a prehistoric creature since Jurassic Park."

Have you read/listened to this book? If so, then what did you think?
