Publisher's Summary

On paper, Chris Brennan looks perfect. He's applying for a job as a high school government teacher, he's ready to step in as an assistant baseball coach, and his references are impeccable.

But everything about Chris Brennan is a lie.

Susan Sematov is proud of her son, Raz, a high school pitcher so athletically talented that he's being recruited for a full-ride scholarship to a Division I college, with a future in major league baseball. But Raz's father died only a few months ago, leaving her son in a vulnerable place where any new father figure might influence him for good - or evil.

Heather Larkin is a struggling single mother who lives for her son Justin's baseball games. But Justin is shy, and Heather fears he is being lured down a dark path by one of his teammates, a young man from an affluent family whose fun-loving manner might possibly conceal his violent plans.

Mindy Kostis succumbs to the pressure of being a surgeon's wife by filling her days with social events and too many gin and tonics. But she doesn't know that her husband and her son, Evan, are keeping secrets from her - secrets that might destroy all of them.

At the center of all of them is Chris Brennan. Why is he there? What does he want? And what is he willing to do to get it?

Enthralling and suspenseful, One Perfect Lie is an emotional thriller and a suburban crime story that will have listeners riveted up to the shocking end, with killer twists and characters you won't soon forget.

I really enjoy a good 'Mystery/Thriller' but the narrator can cause me, at times, to not listen to what might have been a really good story.

    "Perfect Lie"

I really enjoyed this book. A few really good twists and turns to keep me guessing. Somewhat predictable in a couple of places but on the whole I really recommend this book. I did in fact stay awake almost the entire night listening. It was one of those books that I didn't want to stop listening to. I call it a "binge book" 😊

    "Edge of your seat thriller"

Lisa Scottoline has crafted another edge of your seat thriller. George Newbern does a nice job of bringing it all to life. If you're a fan of Scottoline, you won't want to miss this one.

"I couldn't stop listening! It was addictive!"
Where does One Perfect Lie rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of the best audiobooks I've ever had the pleasure to listen to...and I listen to a lot of audiobooks!

What was one of the most memorable moments of One Perfect Lie?

When Chris was dangling upside down from a helicopter to save a boy's life.

Have you listened to any of George Newbern’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, it's my first experience hearing him read. He was excellent.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A new coach for high school boys comes to teach but actually has ulterior motives of his own.

    Any additional comments?

I really think this is one of her best books. Had me on the edge of my seat until the very end.

    "Enjoyable"

I had no idea what this book was about and I hadn't heard about it I just randomly chose it. It went in a different direction than I originally thought but it was an enjoyable listen. I listened to it while I walked and cleaned my house. It was a perfect listen for that. I thought the narrator was quite good and would chose him again. I also got quite a surprise as my hometown, Hazleton PA, was mentioned.

    "Best Narrator I've heard"

The narration makes this book what it is. Listening to Newbern speak the lines is like being inside a movie. I always thought that Scott Brick was my one, true love, but the talented Newbern has ousted him in my heart.

As for the story- the last hour really brings it down form a 5 to a 3. Scottoline dies two stupid things. She tries to create an action scene that is simply absurd. Just stay away from helicopters , Lisa . The big , heart pounding scene just smacks of triteness as well as absurdity.
And I wish that authors would keep their politics out of their tales. It just ruins a good listen.

I give the book a 5 right up until the last hour.
Still enjoyable, but she lost me when she went political and Diehard on me.

    "Say Helo one more time."

I listen to hundreds of audible books a year. I feel compelled to write a review of this one. It was so contrived and ridiculous. The language was absurd, the characters not developed or likable at all and honestly harping for an hour about how an undercover agent of the ATF "lied" to her about who he was makes the Heather character soumd ludicrous. The narrator was fine. The only reason that I finished it was because the reviews suggested this was a good book. Honestly, this was one of the worst I have listened to amd that is saying a lot. Don't waste your time.

    "Great narrator, story just okay"

I very much enhoyed the first part of the book especially since I didnt read the "summary" first. After you know what's going on the story just seemed to fizzle. In spite of the fizzle, it is still a good read and worth the credit. Narrator did a great job.

    "Lame plot, ineffective narrator"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I listen to many Audible books and rarely write a review. Couldn't pass on this one due to the horrible narration and lame plot. Only kept listening because it was entertainment while working in the yard. Would not recommend this book. Lame plot, limited character development, very predictable ending. Narrator made listening difficult.

Would you recommend One Perfect Lie to your friends? Why or why not?

Would not recommend based on previous comments.

What didn’t you like about George Newbern’s performance?

This narrator's word diction is forced and curt. He sounds like a tough guy who is trying to "beat up the story."
