The Past Will Always Find You.

Jos Archer was the girl with the perfect life - until the night it all came crashing down around her. Now, nine months later, she still hasn’t begun to pick up the pieces. Even transferring to a new college and living under the watchful eye of her older sister, Renee, isn’t enough to help her feel normal again.

And then she meets Dusty Sharp. For reasons Jos can’t begin to fathom, the newly reformed campus bad boy seems determined to draw her out of her shell. And if she’s not careful, his knowing green eyes and wicked smile will make her feel things she’s no longer sure she deserves.

But even as Dusty coaxes Jos to open up about the past, he’s hiding secrets of his own. Secrets about the night her old life fell apart. When the truth is finally revealed, will it bring them closer together - or tear them apart for good?

It was okay but not as good as the the 1st book

I really enjoyed My Favourite Mistake so I had high hopes for this sequel. Unfortunately, this book was just okay. I was not blown away by this story. It had so much potential. This book moved at a snails pace and I felt like nothing really exciting happened. Jos Archer used to be the perfect girl, perfect grades, bright future; it was all mapped out for her until it wasn't. When an event has her spiraling out of control her sister, Renee steps in. In the first book, we met Jos's Sister Renee & I really liked her BUT in this book she was acting more like a strict mother rather than a concerned big sister! She is forced to leave her college in New Hampshire to move in with Renee and the gang (Taylor, Hunter, Paul, Mace, Renee and Darah) in Maine and transfer schools. This way Renee can keep a close eye on her sister and hopefully figure out what triggered her sudden change. Most of the book Jos acted like a moody emo teenager but it was just a defense mechanism to try to keep people away. Sometimes it seemed a bit over the top & started to get on my nerves. Jos isn't ready to let anyone in or expose her secret. She soon begins to realize that it isn't as easy as it seemed especially when Dusty Sharp enters her life. He's always around & doesn't appear to be in any hurry to leave. Dusty has his own past that left him a changed man, but his change allowed him to escape his own destruction. He’s finally in a better place, making the right choices and finding it difficult to stay away from the one girl he should not want. The story was a slow starter for me, it seemed to take forever to get to the point where Dusty and Jos were ready to admit their attraction and even longer to discover what her secret was. If you are looking for steamy hot action it's not in this book. There are a few rated R moments but only towards the end. It is more of a YA story. This was a nice attempt at a sweet coming of age romance but I just wanted more...more character connection, more intimacy, and more angst...not so much bitchy characters!

New Adult Angsty/Dark Romance, 1st Book Better

So, I had mixed feelings on this one. It's a ROCK SOLID 4 ♥'s, maybe even a smidge extra... but I didn't love it as much as book #1 in the series. First of all, for some bizarre reason (my fault totally) I thought this book would be about Taylor's sister. Can't fully explain why I thought that... but I was TOTALLY lost at the beginning trying to figure out who the main character was! Granted, I shouldn't blame the book for my misunderstanding, but I am so there.

Second, I'm getting a little burned out by virgins. Really I am. It's a novelty to find a college 'New Adult' female that is also a virgin, and with how often I'm seeing it in books... I'm just ready for a break, let's say.

I also wanted more banter. With these romance books, especially when the couple is fighting their attraction for whatever reason... there was much interaction and banter, but I still wanted more. I'm greedy like that.

Overall, if you enjoyed Chelsea M. Cameron's other books, then you will likely enjoy this one, too. I doubt it will replace your favorite title, however. Solid read, and even re-read potential... and I do have to give a tiny extra bit of love for the redheaded character. OH- and the BEST 'sex' line ever: (I'm paraphrasing) "He wants to put his basilisk into your Chamber of Secrets!" And the multiple Buffy watching in the book. Hat's off for those, and they kept a smile on my face.

I received a free eBook via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, but also purchased an audio copy myself because I had loved the first book in the series so much.
