Publisher's Summary

Instant number-one international best seller

“Think: Dexter but sexier.” (theSkimm)

“A dark and irresistible debut.” (People)

“Will shock even the savviest suspense readers.” (Real Simple)

Dexter meets Mr. and Mrs. Smith in this wildly compulsive debut thriller about a couple whose 15-year marriage has finally gotten too interesting....

Our love story is simple. I met a gorgeous woman. We fell in love. We had kids. We moved to the suburbs. We told each other our biggest dreams, and our darkest secrets. And then we got bored. We look like a normal couple. We're your neighbors, the parents of your kid's friend, the acquaintances you keep meaning to get dinner with. We all have our secrets to keeping a marriage alive. Ours just happens to be getting away with murder.

Editorial Review

Just what is a beach read, anyway? As someone who’s lugged Moby-Dick in hardcover to the shore, I’m a firm believer that summer entertainment is whatever you damn well want it to be. But if you ARE looking for a quintessential beach listen, my pick is the bananas-in-the-best-way My Lovely Wife, narrated with just the right dark intensity by in-house fave David Pittu. —Kat J., Audible Editor

Great narrator! Crazy story!

I enjoyed David Pittu’s reading of the story. I had been looking forward to the release of this book having only read favorable reviews on goodreads by a few ARC- readers.
Although I predicted some of the elements of the story, it was still very interesting to see how it played out. Sort of like a dark comedy. Not too serious. Also no graphic descriptions of violence, sex, or swearing.

WOW. Exactly like the publisher’s summary

Wow this book was excellent. The publisher summary is spot on — it is accurately a combination of Dexter and Mr. & Mrs. Smith but also and importantly, with a family. It is superbly written, very well thought out, no details left unaddressed, just the right amount of hints strategically placed to allow the audience to put pieces together. The twist really comes out of nowhere but not cheaply at the very end like many books, it comes out at the perfect instance with enough time for it to play out and unravel logically and thoughtfully and significantly, for you to adjust to the idea and reframe your perspective. Bravo, highly recommended.

Dark and twisted!

Can’t stop listening. MLW is addictive and twisted! If you are someone with weak heart I would recommend something softer!

Good book

This book kept me intrigued - even after I figured out where it was going. It lacked a touch of something that I can’t put my finger on. I’d still recommend it and I’ll likely go back and read the reviews again to see if someone was able to verbalize what I can’t seem to do myself. I’m leaning towards thinking it was my lack of investment in any character. I wasn’t bummed about anyone dying at all, which is unusual.

As far as the narrator, I thought he was great. I can’t listen to someone who you can hear open their mouth. This guy was articulate and clear without mouth noises. I know some people can relate to what I mean here.

Overall good book, I’d recommend it, just don’t expect to be BLOWN away. Easy read and you wanna know what happens with the characters, even if you’ve already figured it out and aren’t in love with anyone in the book. That’s really a compliment too!

pretty confused about the reviews

In the reviews, this book was compared to Dexter and Mr and Mrs Smith! The thing that made those stories great was the way you felt about the lead characters! You knew they weren't good, but you wanted them to get their happy ending! I hated ALL the characters in this book. The kids were awful, the adults were awful, the story was just so-so, but I had no desire to see the husband OR the wife get away with their MANY crimes. Yuck.

I don't understand all the great reviews ...

... but that might be me. Narrator David Pittu should NEVER EVER narrate women’s voices; his female narratives were laughable. Though the storyline is outrageous and far-fetched, there was quite a surprising twisty turn toward the end that shocked me. But then the very last sentence of the book was too much to even comprehend (really?). I had just finished Trisha Wolfe’s wonderfully dark and wicked “Darkly, Madly.” Thinking this book may be similar, I bought it for a treasured credit. Pass this one unless it is on special. You may like it. Others seem to.

Absolutely brilliant!

Loved it! Great narration and great story. I loved how the couple's story was woven into the current day narrative, everything flowed very well and the novel is thr perfect amount of noir.

Unputdownable

It is not Gone Girl. Few books are. But it is riveting. A totally satisfying read that comes together perfectly. Can’t wait for Samantha Downing’s next novel. (An excellent performance by Mr Pittu.)

Now For Something Entirely Twisted In Darkness..

Whoa.. Samantha Downing has a very sick and twisted mind. I'd really love to have a few drinks with her and ask her a few questions. How does she come up with the sociopath characters in 'My Lovely Wife?'

A seemingly happy couple with two beautiful children live in an upscale suburb. They do their best to 'keep up with the Jones' and everything seems completely normal on the outside. When a serial killer resurfaces, parents and children start to panic, and the young daughter from this family is no different.

The thing she doesn't know is that the serial killers are much, much closer than she'll ever know.

How do the minds of sociopaths work? Read this book and see.. and be prepared to be blown away at least once a chapter while sitting on the end of your seat during the whole book.

Sounds like the author may make a sequel- would love to read it!

What the?????

Don’t read this book if you want to sleep tonight. It will get you hooked and you will be up all night until the last word leaves you wanting more.
I usually don’t like dark story lines, but this one is ADDICTING! So many twists and turns you’ll never see coming!

Absolutely AMAZING
