Publisher's Summary

Wall Street Journal best-selling author Tracy Brogan is back with a sweet, hilarious series about family, forgiveness, and what it means to go back home.

Emily Callaghan never expected to spend another summer on Wenniway Island. Yet here she is, back in her quaint northern Michigan hometown of Trillium Bay, divorced, flat broke, and dragging along her precocious 12-year-old. It's a simple arrangement: Emily, a house flipper, will renovate one of her grandmother's rental properties in exchange for a much-needed loan. Once a wild child, the reformed Emily also hopes to remodel her reputation and show her family she's all grown up.

But coming home is never simple. Emily's dad is more distant than ever. Her younger sister is dating a much older man, and Emily's worried it's a mistake. The cottage remodel grows increasingly daunting. And then there's handsome out-of-towner Ryan Taggert...

Ryan has his own family drama. A smart, ambitious land developer, he's come to Wenniway to rescue his father from the grips of a new girlfriend and protect their family business. But he's quickly distracted by gorgeous, witty Emily Callaghan.

There's no denying the attraction between Emily and Ryan. But will their conflicting interests destroy any chance at love? Or will Emily finally get the chance to rebuild her life - and repair her heart?

Awesome read and Awesome narration..

Don’t listen to this book unless you have a good sense of humor.

What can I say about this book? Other than I absolutely loved it. Why? Because of Amy McFadden. She was just phenomenal. So many characters she was able to do and so many emotions. This was the best narration I’ve ever heard. You can’t go wrong with a book that’s free with KU and $1.99 through Audible.

It was a story about a 59 year old man having an affair with a 26 year old woman and the problems the son of the man and the sister of the girl have trying to break them up, all the while falling in love with each other. And the man, Tag, and the girl, Lilly, you couldn’t help like them both with their May/December relationship. And while Ryan and Emily tried to break the couple up there were times, many times, I had to stop to wipe the tears from my eyes from laughing so hard.

This story was warm and loving and caring and there was always the grief that came from trying to make up for your past mistakes.

And the characters in this book were great, especially Chloe, the 12 year old daughter of Emily you couldn’t help but love. She wasn’t a snot-nosed little witch that you hated. She didn’t pout or whine or cry. She was just a cool kid. And the others: Gigi, the grandmother, was an awesome old woman. Brooke, Emily’s sister, was stuffy but sweet. But the best of all was Mrs. Meisterburger. She was the funniest book character I’ve ever read about.

There was desire throughout this book, which I love, but the sex was all fade-to-black, which is OK by me as long as there is desire and sexual tension. The F-bomb was used about 11 or 12 times.

I couldn’t complain about one thing being wrong with this book, unless it was that I hated to see it end. However, I don’t think you’ll enjoy it near as much just reading it as you would listening to it.

The relationship between Ryan and Emily is left at HFN but the May/December one has no solution whatsoever. Tag and Lilly just stopped being mentioned so I'm assuming they'll show up in the next book.

As to the narration: Awesome, phenomenal, wonderful, emotional, funny, etc, etc.

Mackinac Island in disguise!

This contemporary romance has all the right elements. Quirky characters, a beautiful setting, a handsome but flawed hero, a beautiful but flawed heroine, seemingly insurmountable obstacles and fascinating supporting characters. I highly recommend this book... especially with Amy McFadden bringing it to life with her narration.
To add to the fun, Wenniway Island is really Mackinac Island, Michigan in disguise, with a few fictional changes of course! So if you've been there, you'll enjoy the book even more.

Not Engaging

Although I can handle predictability in light romance, this title falls short of even that. It has very little tension outside of the sexual tension between Ryan and Emily. But even that is meager. The dialogue is trite and so dull as to be unrealistic since it misses content that propels the plot forward. Cliches abound. Even readers who enjoy light, beach reading may find this a little too light. True rising action and conflict doesn't occur until the last 30 minutes. On the upside, Amy McFadden does a great job narrating.

Terrible narration

The narration is terrible. Poor lisping valley girl impression. Drove me nuts. Will not listen to anything with this narrator.

Great narrator

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The story was too simplistic. Boring

What could Tracy Brogan have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Not sure as overall very boring

Have you listened to any of Amy McFadden’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Many. She is the only reason I finished the book. She is an amazing narrator

Was My Kind of You worth the listening time?

No

Any additional comments?

Too many great reviews for a trivial novel

It's simple, I Loved It!

A sweet love story complimented by Amy McFadden's fun, happy reading, made for a lovely, cute story. I loved all the characters and the made up island in Michigan, which I happen to be from. Spend that credit. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!!

Best performance ever!

Amy McFadden killed it! The multitude of characters she portrayed made this book one I did not want to end. I am a serial audible listener and I really loved this book.

Michigander

The story was good, but I must express my disappointment with the fact that the location of the story is clearly Mackinaw Island, but Ms. Brogan chose to use fictitious locales rather than shine the spotlight on Michigan's island gem.
