Publisher's Summary

Orphaned at the age of 10, Jim Burden moves to Nebraska to live with his grandparents. There he meets Ántonia Shimerda, the daughter of an immigrant family from Bohemia, who have come to carve out a life for themselves in the harsh and bountiful Nebraskan landscape.

At the urging of her father, Jim teaches Ántonia English and together they share adventures that will bind them throughout their lives, despite the vicissitudes of time and fate, and years of separation.

The final book in Willa Cather's Great Plains trilogy, My Ántonia is a lyrical tribute to the bygone pioneer life and the struggles and successes of America's early settlers.

Amazing narration of a classic

I listened to the sample options for this classic which included one of George Guidall's (my absolute favorite narrator)early versions. But, despite zero reviews, something about Robert Slade's voice seemed to fit with what I thought My Antonia should sound like. Also, I have only had good experiences with Naxos productions. The book is wonderful and Robert Slade did a marvelous job. Within 30 minutes I was transported to pioneer Nebraska midst a sweet story and time.

Americana at it’s very finest

I have read this story a number of times, and yet, this retelling made it all new and even more beloved for me. The reader is magnificent in his ability to bring each character to life. I previewed several other Audible renditions, and this is the best by far.
Willa Cather, to me, is one of the greatest of authors, and not to be missed.

Good narration

Very pleasant and good book. I enjoy it. I think I liked it more on audible than if I had read it.

Loved The Narrator

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Robert Slade brought Jim and all the other characters to leave. I'm so glad I chose his narration. One reviewer said that it is the kind of story that will come back to you again and again in your life, and that is the comment that made me want to read it. I agree with him. Well spent Audible credit.
