it was okay but...

this is my first ever negative review. when I first found this title I was ecstatic. Cozy mystery, one of the towns I grew up in with the sequel in my hometown, cooking!!! what more would I want?
I found myself having to force myself to listen to this book. Needing to go to something else after each chapter. The characters were all lacking any sort of personalities besides their obvious archetypes, cringe worthy NPC interactions and the strong overuse of calling Poulsbo a "village". I'm sorry but its not a village nor is it small enough to walk to everything in a short span of time. Kitsap County is actually pretty big, and unless you're in a club or part of a community of the church, or the most common went to school together you probably don't know anything about anyone. i thought the Lilly's dog and even her passion for cooking would be way more prominent in the story but its such a small passing note.
side note becasue I don't want to write two of these . I listened to the second thinking maybe it gets better but it unfortunately dosnt. they make it sound like Poulsbo and Port Townsend are right next to eachother and not the nearly 1hour aoart they actually are. The chase scene made me roll my eyes harder then I have ever rolled my eyes before.

there's alot more I could say. I wish I could love these books but its lacking and I'm glad they were such short stories.

Murder Cozy Mystery!

This is the first book in the Pacific Northwest Cozy Culinary Series, a murder cozy mystery. This is a great start to the series! Lily is an amazing character, strong, smart, and determined. The storyline is intriguing, and entertaining. I liked to follow mother and daughter's sleuthing. Jeff Moon did an excellent job bringing this story to life. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to listening to Poisoned in Port Townsend, the next book in the series.

FUN COZY

Murder on Liberty Bay: Book 1 (Pacific Northwest Cozy Culinary Series)
By: Dennis Shock
Narrated by: Jeff Moon

4 STARS
This is a relatively quick cozy culinary mystery. The protagonist arrives in a coastal town, to open the restaurant her late husband purchased. The first time she enters, she finds a dead body.

She and her daughter start their own investigation because the restaurant can’t open until the crime is solved.
And so it begins. An enjoyable light listen.

The narration was done by Jeff Moon. He gave the characters personality. Quite an enjoyable listen, even if the female voices were a bit silly.

I will listen to more in this series.

Great Whodunit!

This is a fun murder mystery. It is well written and very well narrated. Sort of a second chance romance too.

Basic first book of a series.

Murder on Liberty Bay - Audio Book

Things I enjoyed about this book include Lily’s (protagonist) daughter who is an investigative reporter and quite funny in her own right, and Detective Miller who was charming and genuine. The plot was basic but still easy to listen too. The author camouflaged the killer quite well. I really enjoyed the references to different food dishes which all had descriptions that made it easy to visualize.

Things I didn’t like about the book was the narrator. He wasn’t able to inject warmth into the characters, which I think is the reason why, I never really connected to Lily. When he read the woman character’s dialogue, I cringed. On the other hand, he did a really good job with the character of Detective Miller.

Overall, not a bad mystery for book one of a series, but I would seriously rethink the narrator for this series going forward.

My review is voluntary and all comments and opinions are my own.

Great start to a new series!

I enjoyed reading about the characters in this murder mystery. Especially the connection between mother and daughter.
I read the book along with the audiobook, and didn’t figure out who the murderer was until the end. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

So good

This cozy mystery is definitely a stand out for me. The dog makes the whole story. I will definitely read more in this series.

Murder Mystery

Murder on Liberty Bay read more like a comedy than a cozy mystery, and the narrator did not help that situation. I found the story hard to get through because it just started to sound repetitive. I received this book for free upon my request. I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased review here.
