Agatha Award-winning author Anne George deftly blends comedy and suspense in her engaging series.

Retired school teacher Patricia Anne has a knack for landing right in the middle of murder investigations, but this time she is fighting to clear the accused. Patricia Anne has been good friends with her neighbor Mitzi for 40 years. She’s surprised when she sees Mitzi’s husband Arthur having lunch at the Hunan Hut with an attractive woman. She’s positively shocked when that same woman drops dead moments later. Then Arthur is accused of murder, their home catches fire, and he gets shot in the butt. Patricia Anne knows she has to do something to help the poor man. That means enlisting the aid of her flamboyant sister Mary Alice for a little detective work.

Anne George’s gentle humor combined with a cast of colorful characters make Murder Shoots the Bull a delight. Ruth Anne Phimister’s sparkling narration is full of Southern charm.

Would you listen to Murder Shoots the Bull again? Why?

Yes. There are so many twists and turns you need to pay attention. I often get distracted while driving and need to rewind.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The ladies are always interesting. Very entertaining. We don't do these in sequence which would be nice but not essential. The characters are richly developed and easy to follow along.

What does Ruth Ann Phimister bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her voice and tone are excellent. She is very funny. I love the interactions between the sisters. She does them both very well.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The series always entertains. I would not call it great literature but we love to listen to these ladies solve crimes while driving.

The Ladies do it again.

Can't say enough wonderful things about the late Anne George. I so wish there were more Patricia Anne and Mary Alice adventures to enjoy. They make me think of my Grandmas, one from West Virginia and one from Texas.

I accidentally read this one, which is #6, after Murder Carries a Torch, but it didn't really make any difference.

If you haven't discovered these delightful books yet, you are in for a real treat!

So sad, I've finished them all :(
