Publisher's summary

Sirens ring. Are you listening? Near Candy Cane Lane. A body is glistening. A murderous sight. Trubble's investigating tonight. Walking through this winter wonderland.

It's the week before Christmas, and investigative journalist Penelope Trubble has reluctantly agreed to investigate the death of a woman at the Sleighs & Slopes Adventure Resort in the hopes of exonerating her husband - who just happens to be Penny's ex. But with so many suspicious characters lurking in the trees, Penelope risks being strangled by clues, Christmas lights, conjecture, and catastrophe.

It doesn't help that Penny's still a little frosty with the man accused of icing his bride, and she must prove he's no cold-blooded killer. At least there's candy-cane cocoa, a roaring fire, and the Laurentian Mountains to savor - not to mention the hunky detective dashing through the snow after her.

Helping an ex is a slippery slope, and things are going downhill fast for Penelope Trubble.

I loved it

I absolutely loved this audiobook. The narrator has done a wonderful job of bringing each character to life. The author has written a great combination of mystery, suspense, humor, murder and a little romance.

'Tis the Season....for Murder!?!

Murder, She Slopes: A Penning Trouble Mystery by Rachael Stapleton, narrated by Ellen Latzen is the series to follow for all you mystery lovers looking to add some clean, fun...murder...to your collection! In this episode we meet up with Penelope Trubble again of Bohemian Lake (from Book 1 - which is FANTASTIC, by the way). It's a week before Christmas, and Penny's ex-boyfriend has been accused of killing the wife he married a month after he and Penny split up. Unenthusiastically, Penny agrees to travel to the wintry resort to help find the real murderer and, hopefully, clear his name. Like any good mystery, though, things are never that easy. As the plot thickens, the list of suspects grows, and more bodies begin to pile up, making everyone at Sleighs & Slopes Resort not quite who they seem. 'Tis the season...right?!?

Of the three storylines in the Bohemian Lake series, the one following Penny Trubble is my absolute favorite. These hilarious, real-to-life characters are a hoot! Rachael Stapleton's way with dialogue is fabulous and, as a result, immediately pulls the reader/listener in. Filled with suspense, red-herrings, twists, and surprises, this unpredictable outcome leaves you saying, "Wow, she is good!" Yes, my friends, Rachael Stapleton is one talented author! I cannot wait to hear what comes next for Penelope Trubble!

Narrator Ellen Latzen couldn't be more perfect for this series. She sounds exactly like I would expect a young woman of Penny Trubble's age to sound. The way she speaks in her "matter-of-fact" tone makes me feel like she's someone I've known forever. I own the Kindle copy of this book, too, and I fully understand that there are those who prefer reading to listening, but for me, Ellen Latzen's performance is well-worth the credit in this case. So many times, depending on the storyline, I feel that narrators turn a good mystery into a silly and unbelievable hunt for a killer. In this case, however, the narration made the storyline real and believable. I loved her performance, and I can't wait to hear her again in Penny Trubble's next adventure!

Murder, She Slopes: A Penning Trouble Mystery by Rachael Stapleton, narrated by Ellen Latzen deserves 5 out of 5 stars across the board. From the entertaining and unpredictable storyline to the portrayal of all involved, this is one series you don't want to miss. Although it could be considered a stand-alone, you will enjoy it much more of you start at the beginning of the Bohemian Lake Mystery Series. The best part is getting to know the characters in all three Bohemian Lake storylines because they make appearances in each other's books. Before you know it, you will feel like you live there, too, solving cases right along with them. Happy listening!

Fantastic

Another great book by Rachel Stapleton. This book was full of action and kept me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out who was the murderer. Rachel has created a great little world and each series seems to connect to each other. I definitely keep reading/listening to the author. The narrator does a fantastic job. I was gifted this book at my request in exchange for an honest review.

Cozy Christmas Mystery

Penelope was extremely likeable and relatable; I thought she was a well developed and strong female character. The book is set right before Christmas, but it's not particularly Christmasy; regardless, I enjoyed it as one of my holiday listens. The author did a fabulous job on this fun cozy mystery, it has a good plot and wraps up well at the end, at least until the next adventure. I also really love the cover, its what caught my attention in the first place.

I think the narrator did a fantastic job differentiating between characters and really bringing Penelope to live. She easily took this book to the next level.

So much fun ...

Loved this new addition to the storyline. The author's use of one liners for humor; in addition to the use of descriptive narratives captures the listener's attention and breathes life into the characters and the scenes. A must listen for both new listeners, as well as current Rachel Stapleton fans !
