Publisher's summary

A Shakespearean twist on the long-running Meg Langslow mystery series in Murder Most Fowl, the next installment from Donna Andrews, award-winning, New York Times best-selling author of The Falcon Always Wings Twice.

Meg Langslow’s in for a busy summer. Her husband is directing a production of Macbeth, and most of the cast and crew are occupying spare bedrooms in their house. She also has to keep an eye on Camp Birnam, where a group of medieval reenactors are commemorating the real-life Macbeth by setting up what they fondly believe is an authentic medieval Scottish military camp.

And then there’s Damien Goodwin, a filmmaker who has been hanging around, trying to document the production. When Goodwin hosts a showing of some of the footage he’s taken, he manages to embarrass or offend just about everyone. The next morning Meg isn’t exactly surprised to find that someone has murdered him.

But who? Some people’s motives were obvious from the footage: the couple whose affair was revealed...the bombastic leader of the reenactors, who could be facing years in prison if the evidence from the video helps convict him of sheep stealing...the actress who’s desperately trying to downplay a health issue that could cost her the role of her life. Other motives are only hinted at - did the filmmaker have other footage that would reveal why one of the actors is behaving so furtively?

Unfortunately, whoever murdered Goodwin also destroyed all the electronic devices on which his video was stored. So Caerphilly’s chief of police - and Meg - must rediscover the same secrets the filmmaker did if they want to catch a killer.

Critic reviews

"Meg Langslow, is on hand to help police chief Henry Burke and senior deputy Vern Shiffley overcome the curse of the Scottish play, sift through layers and layers of mischief, and choose from among all these zanies the perpetrators of a surprisingly expansive flock of actual crimes. Fans will appreciate the helpful final chapter, which indicates exactly which malefactors have earned which legal punishment." (Kirkus)

Twisty or than normal

A great mystery, with comedy, which is well thought out. The only reason it’s not a complete five star rating is that full cast audios are the only ones I give fives star ratings to. Even so this narrator was very good and most of the time you could tell the characters apart just by her voice. There were only one or two times where she got them mixed up. Audio editing sound quality messed up, at only one location. The mystery was complex, twisty, and evolving all the way through.

Another Great Meg Langslow Mystery

This book has a colorful cast of characters. The main character is Meg, who is a wife to Michael head of the Drama Dept. at Caerphilly College. Mother to preteen twin boys, Josh and Jaimie. And also a professional a blacksmith when not helping to solve a murder. They live on a farm that includes dogs, chickens, llamas and a cow. Their house is very large and always has some relatives and guests staying with them. It’s too bad that the town is fictional. I would love to live there.

FUNNY ONE OF MEGS BETTER STORIES

In the latest Meg Langslow mystery MURDER MOST FOWL BY DONNA ANDREWS, Meg has a lot on her plate. Her husband Michael is doing a production of "that play" MacBeth, the cast and crew along with assorted relatives are living in and around her house . There is also a filmmaker names Damien Goodwin, who is running around being a general pest and there is a group of so called reenactors out in the field who are stealing livestock and making a general nuisance of themselves! Oh did I mention the three witches casting spells in the woods? Then comes the murder, and along with Meg's cousin Rose Noir, they have to figure out who the murderer is without getting themselves killed.

In MURDER MOST FOWL we get to see much more of crazy Rose Noir and her herbs ! This time Rose Noir is the one Meg is listening to. I really liked this change. Its not all Meg . Meg actually figures out that Rose Noir isnt just her dinging cousin after all. Rose Noir is starting, I hope to become a little more developed as a character. Its also good to see that its just not all Meg this and Meg that.

Bernadette Dunne as always does a great job with the characters and I hope she continues to partner up with the author on Meg Langslow series.

Another fun and entertaining listen

Another fun and entertaining mystery featuring Meg Langslow, her husband, Michael, sons, Jamie and Josh, and the rest of the characters we've come to love in Caerphilly. Bernadette Dunn provides a wonderful interpretation of this quirky cozy mystery. A listen or read of any books in this series is always time well spent.

Too much fun!

verbal-humor, situational-humor, family, family-dynamics, friendship, actors, university, reenactors, the-Scottish-play, theft, murder, investigation, Virginia, vandalism*****
The mysteries are always first rate and this one is no exception! This is a long-running series but a new reader can hop in at any time without missing a beat (WARNING: this series is addictive!).
This time the madness centers around a production of Macbeth with cast staying at blacksmith Meg and Professor Michael's residence, rehearsing nearby, and being beleaguered by vandalism, other faculty/the videographer/the goof heading up a re-enactment group, and the usual extended family. Oh, and a murder. Let the madness begin!
This cannot be an unbiased review because I reread some of them (the print copies walk away so now I have them in audio) and wait with bated breath for each new one
I requested and received a free ebook copy from St. Martin's Press/Minotaur Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
That was Apr 28, 2021, now I have the audio!

Another Donna Andrews gem!

It is always a joy when I get to spend time with Meg and her hilarious family, both human and critter, and this book was no exception. DA always manages to use numerous characters with such distinct personalities that it is easy to keep them straight. I also love that she has strong, smart female characters that also have endearing eccentricities. I listen to the Meg Langslow books whenever I feel like visiting old friends who have a plethora of loveable critters.

Murder Most Fowl

Murder with humor and pathos. The character of Meg is also very smart, savvy and capable.

Love, love, love this series

I was not disappointed in this latest offering by Donna Andrews. I started out buying this series in paperback and by the 4th booth started getting the hardbacks. Then when they started taking up so much room, the Audible books came along. I now have the entire series in Audible….very portable. I enjoy listening to the older books "when needed”. Hope you enjoy this one as much as I did.

Another winner!

I absolutely love the Meg Langslow series - I have read and/or listened to them all, and I can't recommend them enough. Berndette Dunn is a great narrator, and it is obvious she enjoys the stories as much as I do. I have read all but the last two books myself, but from now on, I'll just get the audible edition! If you enjoy cozy mystery series, this a great one !
