Bear Grylls
“Bear Grylls is a veritable superhero….The former UK Special Forces paratrooper has braved the world’s harshest environments.”
—Hampton Sides, Outside Magazine
“Bear Grylls is one tough, crazy dude.”
—Washington Post
Already a #1 London Sunday Times Bestseller, Mud, Sweat, and Tears is the adrenaline-fueled autobiography of the mega-popular star of the hit survival series Man Vs. Wild, adventurer Bear Grylls. A former British Special Forces commando, a man who has always sought the ultimate in dangerous challenges, Bear’s true story reads like an outdoors action and adventure novel. But Bear’s story is true—full of breathtaking escapes and remarkable exploits that would make any Jack London or H. Ryder Haggard hero proud.

Much like any of Bear Grylls TV shows, this book is a bit gung-ho, corny, but irrepressibly fun.I enjoyed the stories about his military training and I think it is full of good life-advice for younger listeners. He manages references to his religious beliefs tastefully - it is an account of his life so it should play a prominent role in his story, but is not preachy or overbearing.
The most annoying thing about the book was that at the end of every chapter there is a one liner that is meant to summarize the theme or add punch. As I got further in to the book I started to anticipate them and enjoy their oversimplifying corniness. And by the end of the book it became hilarious.
Definitely recommended for Bear fans, people interested in a military career and young people who want some life advice from someone who has done well for himself.
Corny, but Fun

Mud, Sweat, and Tears: The Autobiography is the story of how Bear Grylls became the man his is today. Molded by his fathers compulsion for having fun and adventure and his mothers care free everything will be taken care of attitude, Bear lived a life I could only dream of. Sadly the tweet mentioned above was a touch misleading as the bullying coverage was the equivalent of a couple paragraphs. I thought that the book was going to be broken into 3 sections, Mud, Sweat and Tears, it wasn’t, maybe that was just too cliche. Mud, Sweat, and Tears: The Autobiography is full of Bear’s memories of his family, his child hood, his military training, climbing Mount Everest, and falling in love. Surprisingly Bear’s stumbling into Man vs Wild was barely mentioned at all. Bear has definitely lived and interesting and full life, somehow remained humble and true to himself. Bear has proven that his mantra faith, family, friends can lead a person to accomplish incredible feats. What a Life Bear has Lived!
