A mother’s love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stand in its path.

Amelia Bell is thrust into every mother’s worst nightmare. She has a child who is fatally ill and no one knows of a vaccine that will cure him. Her son was one of the first infected with the virus that changed life and the world as we know it. Her son transformed into a monster with a ravenous appetite for human flesh. Believing he will become healthier if she feeds him what he craves, she enlists the help of her alter ego “Mrs. Kim” to provide what he desires.

Mrs. Kim is first introduced in the novel Winter’s Salvation. Both stories take place simultaneously, and it is not necessary to listen to one before the other.

I received this audio book for free in exchange for my honest review. This is a fantastic twist on the zombie story. Both the writing and narration are excellent. You won't be disappointed with this one.

Jason Deyo shows pure genius in his writing, I enjoyed his first offering, loved this one even more and I cannot wait for his future works. Mrs. Kim kept me on the edge of my seat waiting for what was ahead in the next paragraph!

Stellar Writing

This was my first read from this author. At first I thought it was going to be just like all of the other zombie stories. I was, however, pleased to find that was not the case. I feel like much of the story was rushed and would have liked more details and more elaborate sequencing. Sometimes I felt like there were gaps in the storytelling, but this can’t always be avoided in such a short piece. I would definitely be interested in reading the other pieces highlighting other characters’ points of view.

The narration was good. There were times where it seemed like the narrator was bored, but those times were balanced with other times that held great energy. The character voices were easily distinguishable and I always knew who was speaking at all times. I would definitely listen to another audiobook read by this narrator.

A lot of action packed into 5 hours!

This was definitely a good story. I enjoyed every bit of it. Now I need to check out Winter’s Salvation.

Absolutely gripping!!

This is way different than your run of the mill zombie book. I honestly am not how much I enjoyed it. It is a good story, an original story, an that alone is hard to find. I found myself wondering what the heck was going on a lot of the time. Narration was okay. I think this is worth a shot if you enjoy zombie books and want something new!

Definitely a new type of zombie book!

Another great book by this author! The plot thickens as the story is told. There are parts that make a person cringe. Lots of zombie action in this book. Not like some that you have very little zombie action. The narrator is amazing! She really makes the characters come to life... well unlife. I am from the deep south and her accent was right on for Ga. I despise fake southern accents because they are done horribly. she pulled it off very well though. Her voice changed with each character and it was believable. The author did a great job with foreshadowing just when you think you know what is gonna happen it flips. Great book to add to your collection.

This book really hooked me from the beginning. I started this as something to listen to in between work and ended up unable to stop until the end. As much as Amelia frustrated me, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for her as well. I started questioning myself, what would I do in this situation?

Loved it

Whenever I see a zombie-related story being advertised, I’m all for it! Strangely? Coincidentally? There were two separate authors posting this week for zombie stories. I grabbed both. I loved both! I really liked this story even though I wasn’t a fan of Mrs. Kim/Amelia. I understand what kind of person she was, basically living in her own world. I would have just left without her had I been Keith. But she was definitely one of those characters you love to hate. Poor Keith. I wish the story would have been longer; I seem to have had that similar thought with the last few audiobooks I’ve listened to. They’re really good…then they’re done. ☹

The narrator did a pretty good job. Overall, I liked that it was easy to tell who was talking. She had a great country accent as well. Unfortunately, I felt like she was just reading from a script and she sounded bored. That’s just my opinion though.

Questions/Comments:

Jimmy is described as having really blonde hair with light green eyes, and he’s similar to the children from “Children of the Corn.” Um…the kids from that movie, minus the main kid/guy, looked like regular kids. I believe the author meant he was similar to the blonde haired/light-colored eyed kids from “Village of the Damned.”

In the beginning, after the family decides to leave the bowling alley, Keith ends up having to intervene when an old man attacks his wife’s car. After realizing the old man was dead, Keith notices that no one has come out to help him. Looking around, he notices that all his neighbors are closing their curtains. I thought they were in the street…like not right in front of their house or right near it?

In the end, I’d definitely be interested in reading/listening to more by this author.

A great story!

I loved the book. The author,Jason Deyo truly has a warped mind. Lol. But that’s what it take to be a great writer. I related to the mothers love for her son, Jimmy. A mother’s love knows no bounds.
The narrator P.W. Parker did a terrific job. She really brings Mrs. Kim to life.
Me and my husband listened to this book together and we both agreed we would give this book an A+.

Brilliant twist on the zombie genre
