Publisher's summary

A powerful ally has gone insane and threatens to expose supernaturals to the entire world, damning the innocent and the guilty in equal measure.

For John Cook, the day all hell broke loose started like any other - sipping on a fresh, steaming mug of joe. Well, the blood might have actually come from a guy named Joe, technically speaking.

But figuratively speaking, John got caught with his pants down.

Because somewhere in a distant room illuminated by hellfire, a fierce enemy learned a terrible truth. Armed with the Spear of Destiny and power bestowed directly from Lucifer himself, a man is finally set to achieve his long-awaited revenge.

And the most powerful demon lord in existence has been summoned from the pits of Hell and given a target. Asmodeus will not stop until his master’s bidding is fulfilled, and a soul is claimed.

And a military force, armed with deadly silver rounds, has set a trap.

The clock is ticking, and it’s not the timer for John’s microwave burrito....

Tick-tock. Tick-tock, John Cook. The foundations of civilization are crumbling, and the only way to hold it up is to sacrifice a few pawns....

Even if those pawns are some of his closest friends.

Enter the Mouth of Madness and join John as he faces a truly impossible quest. Hopefully, he puts his pants on, first, but no promises.

John must save the world

John Cook has several world ending plots that all require his attention. His concern is finding Depweg before any chance of redemption is lost. He lost Da and cannot take losing his brother. But he and Joey get their asses kicked by Depweg. John makes an alliance with the government. He really had no choice. They seem to be equipped to fight the supernatural with deadly artillery. Much of the fighting centers around Sliver, a Grand Warlock with the spear of destiny and Asmodeus. Sliver wants revenge for Depweg’s greatest sin. Asmodeus wants John because Lucifer wants him dead. John is out matched which makes for great battle scenes. Locke demonstrates that he is really a changed man/boy when he makes a great sacrifice for the team. John is still crazy, silly, awesome and the monster who protects the innocent. The wardens finally catch up with John and task him and his friends with punishing the warlocks and eradicating Samael’s minions from the world. Archangel Gabriel wants John to take a short trip to hell and Ulric, with newfound powers threatens John.

Fun Series

This is a fun smartass series. Enjoying it so far about to start the next book which kinda sucks because when I finish it I'll have to wait for the next book to come out on audible. Please don't be like some of the other authors that only put half the series to audio..

Sadly Not Improving

I’m a serial audible reader and love urban fiction / fantasy novels. It’s not uncommon for an author to take a few books before they really hit their stride…so I pushed through Blains first 3 books. A quarter of the way into this book, I’m stopping without finishing and moving on from the series. It’s a fun premise and written in a cool way…but it lacks depth. It feels like a straight to streaming movie vs something more fleshed out and substantive. FWIW Shayne Silvers & Jim Butcher are the kings of this realm, with the following being very good as well: RS Belcher, Kevin Hearne, Mike Carey etc.

Luke Daniels is the best narrator of all!!

Hellishly Hilarious

The action packed fun continues! I truly enjoy every character and Luke Daniel’s is the perfect reader for this series. Hunter Blain’s ability to pack so much growth into each character individually makes it possible to love them all. Starting book 5 immediately. Long Live the Queen!

Another Homerun By Hunter Blain

What could I possibly say, that I haven’t said in previous reviews.. This man.. this genius of a man has created something that my heart knew would be missing, once I finished The Iron Druid Chronicles. While John & Atticus are kind of on the opposite ends of the spectrum as far as magic is concerned, they both know, that sometimes, just sometimes.. you have to get your hands extra dirty to take care of a roadblock on the path to your objective. John is about to meet said roadblock head on, (with the hope I’m sure that it’s the only 1 that is there). I look forward to how he comes out victorious or IF he does, after visiting…… HELL!!!
