THE FIRST MERCY THOMPSON NOVEL!

Moon Called is the novel that introduced Patricia Briggs’s Mercy Thompson to the world and launched a #1 bestselling phenomenon...

Mercy Thompson is a shapeshifter, and while she was raised by werewolves, she can never be one of them, especially after the pack ran her off for having a forbidden love affair. So she’s turned her talent for fixing cars into a business and now runs a one-woman mechanic shop in the Tri-Cities area of Washington State.

But Mercy’s two worlds are colliding. A half-starved teenage boy arrives at her shop looking for work, only to reveal that he’s a newly changed werewolf—on the run and desperately trying to control his animal instincts. Mercy asks her neighbor Adam Hauptman, the Alpha of the local werewolf pack, for assistance.

But Mercy’s act of kindness has unexpected consequences that leave her no choice but to seek help from those she once considered family—the werewolves who abandoned her...

“In the increasingly crowded field of kick-ass supernatural heroines, Mercy stands out as one of the best.”—Locus©2006 Patricia Briggs; (P)2009 Penguin

This is a great series. I own the ebooks and have read them all. The narrator of this audio book is very good; great inflection, uses different voices for all characters and consistently follows through with them. Not all narrators do this and it makes a huge difference! The audio book really brings out the humor and gives great visual imagery as well. Narrators can make or break a series (e.g., Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward - fantastic series, but the audiobooks sound like they are being read by a sports announcer and just ruin it). Some other good paranormal series that also have audiobooks with good narrators are the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlene Harris and the Rachel Morgan Series by Kim Harrison. Enjoy!

Great Series, Great Narration

I finished listening to Moon Called and immediately bought the whole series in print and read them in a week. I then bought the audio of the 5th book of the series. To me the 1st and 5th were the best, but the whole series is extremely well done. Original and witty. Love that the female character is gutsy and independant. Romance is well integrated but definately not the focal. Could listen to this at work with out being worried about what others would over hear. Wasnt crazy about the voice of the male lead in Moon Called but for the record, by the last book this narrator was in her stride and every voice was perfectly suited to the characters. Other great thing about these as audio is that they are not that long but long enough. Best book this year that i have downloaded.

A new favorite

I DON'T like vampire books. Don't. But ... somehow I missed that this one is about vampires, werewolves, etc, ordered and listened ... and quite enjoyed it. I guess good story telling trumps lame topic.

I (didn't) like vampires

One of the better supernatural being stories written today. I am a lover of vampire / werewolf / magic beings stores and because of that I have read a lot of them. I found this one very entertaining and very enjoyable to "read". I will not call it the best, but I will definitely complete series in the VERY near future. I know others have called it a rip off of certain stories, but that can be said about a lot of stories. You probably could call almost all books published today a rip off of someone / something. A totally new idea is very rare in my opinion. I could be wrong, but if author writes about things people do not want to read, they most likely will be looking for another profession.

WONDERFUL BOOK!

This series is imaginative and well-written, and the characters are interesting and well-developed. There's a good mix of humor and drama. I was actually surprised at how I was drawn in to this world and ended up purchasing the entire series within a couple of weeks.

PG-PG13: For those who might like to know, it can be listened to around others without earbuds, with no worries of, "Is this the porn chapter?" The story is good enough to stand without detailed descriptions of every physical touch. There is some sex in the series, but it's not graphic. No offense to the more erotic series, as I do enjoy those as well, but I'm glad I can share this one with my daughter.
