Awesome practical tips

I have love, loved loved your book.

I loved your common mistakes part, I made all of those, I loved to tips for not over spending and normalizing over spending. I loved the practicality of including a mini budget, buffer and pocket money.

I would always try to go one a financial starvation diet and I could never at k to it so I’d give up.

Also the sinking funds section was really helpful. I thought I had that under control but not really at all.

I redid my budget including all of your tips and I’m doing a weekly tracking to help me stick with it. And I’ll be trying the weekly mtg with partner.

So many great ideas! Thank you thank you!!

Great for beginners

Love the fact that she states multiple times that budgeting is not pretty and easy. How social media makes it seem like it is very easy and simple and perfect but it isn’t and that is ok. Def recommend.

This audiobook will inspire you to change your financial future. Simple, realistic, and easy to follow, the author’s sound advice will help you get your money in order. As a bonus, the narrator had a pleasant voice and I enjoyed listening to and learning from this step by step guide.

So dull with a limited audience

I’ve been following her for a while and was excited to read this book but it was just so dull and repetitive. The whole second half of the book is just another way of repeating the first half. I bet the word “family” is mentioned about 8000 times. There isn’t any new info that you can’t find through her podcast. In fact, it’s really just repeating the same stuff over and over. She’s clearly a Ramsey fan and repeats some of his same stuff. I absolutely loathe him and I think anyone repeating anything he does should be said with some very strong condemnation of him as a human (he literally fired a female employee for getting pregnant out of wedlock and has really questionable real estate dealings).

My biggest issue is that this book is that that it’s geared toward people just like her - white, heterosexual, married, kids, religious, living in the suburbs. I cannot fathom why someone writing a personal finance book would mention setting faith-based goals. It was such a turn off for me. No acknowledgment of privilege, socioeconomics, racial and sexual orientation differences, prejudice in finance, etc. She seems to want to discuss stuff outside of personal finance, but does it from a bubble that many people don’t relate to, especially those living in high CoL states, with jobs with little to no benefits, of those living in big cities who have to adapt their finances. This book is meant to be motivating, but it’s so hard to feel that way when certain aspects about finance in our society are ignored. What about the single mom on one income and no family support? I just came off reading Financial Feminist where all these things were addressed before the empowerment part. It was a great recognition for me that, as a woman, society makes it much more difficult for me, so let’s use the system to our advantage! I’m really surprised the editor of this book did not encourage her to reach a broader audience. I feel like this was directed toward her married church members. So disappointing.
