  • Conscious Motherhood with Trish Boes
    Jun 23 2023
Motherhood can be a complex conversation for many. In this episode, Trish and I unpack what it means to be a mixed kid having mixed kids, what conscious mothering looks like when you're raising a global citizen...and what exactly it means to be a global citizen. Pulling themes from previous episodes like Alisha's episode about crossing cultures & borders, Trish talks about the ways her own movement has informed the way she's choosing to raise her daughter and the professional path she's taking. • Season 1 Round Table: The Power of a Name
    Apr 26 2023

To celebrate the launch of Mixed Feelings Radio Season 2, we sat down with our friends from Season 1 to discuss the complexities, intimacies, and intricacies of our names. We all have one and with it sometimes comes joy but equally, the possibility of grief. As mixed people, our names are that much more important to how we choose to identify. In this episode, you'll hear Hannah, Will, Arman, Jon, and Greg explore their mixed feelings about their given names, nicknames, and chosen names. We sat down together in one room to really connect and foster the community we've all been longing for.

Stay tuned for Season 2 coming soon!

  • What's in a name? with Kelsea Knowles-Au
    Sep 1 2022

Many people (mixed and not) have complicated relationships with their given names. For me, it has been a traumatic point of stress at times, and an opportunity to celebrate at other times. In this solo episode, I explore my own name and the mixed feelings I have about it. We also discuss the end-of-season round table coming in the fall.

  • Fatherhood with Greg Washington
    Aug 19 2022

In the final conversation of the season, I talk all things "Fatherhood" with my friend & new father Greg. With complicated relationships with our fathers comes many mixed feelings. This episode covers topics we've discussed throughout the season: representation, being an undercover POC, the masculinization of black men, and everything in between. When we think about fathers, we sometimes think of the ones we had (or didn't), the ones we hope to be, or hoped we had, and the ones that come into our lives in unexpected ways. I'm grateful to have been a sounding board for some never-before-had conversations and a platform to unpack some feelings about fatherhood with Greg.

  • Stereotypes of a Black male misunderstood with Jon Adediji
    Jul 27 2022

In this episode, Jon and I discuss some of the stereotypes he faces as a Black man. We chat about the ways in which his mixed identity is complicated by his relationship with his father, the way he walks through the world as a black man but sometimes identifies as otherwise, the sexualization of black men and how that came to be, and the ways we protect ourselves when it comes to the how we even handle our mixed feelings. I've known Jonn for about 10 years and I learned a lot throughout this conversation, I hope you enjoy & learn some things as well.

  • Being an Undercover POC with Arman Sadrzadeh
    Jul 6 2022

What does it mean to be white-passing? What does it feel like? Where does cultural confidence come from? How do you feel about your appearance? This episode navigates the complexities of appearance and looking ethnically ambiguous. Arman and I gently graze the subject of nature vs. nurture in the confidence of our upbringings and how the connection to culture can sometimes aid in confidence in culture. We also discuss the ways our white-passing may affect or impact the way we advocate for other POC and ourselves in uncomfortable moments.
