Publisher's Summary

Three trials stand between Lera and exile. Unless the training kills her first.

Quint magic has never chosen a human before, and the Elders Council is convinced Lera is a mistake.

When the quint refuses to be cleaved apart, the enraged elders give them a choice: exile from Lunos or demotion to the lowest of trainees. Subject again to the humiliations and deadly trials they endured centuries ago, the males now face a new challenge - training Lera to survive.

River, Shade, Coal, and Tye will do whatever it takes to keep Lera safe. But Lera will do whatever she must to keep them together - even if it means putting herself in mortal danger.

Too short

Great story I just wish it was longer. the second book was definitely better than the first.. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Decent

Once again a decent story. My only frustration is how short it is. I’m invested enough to keep buying the next books but I feel at the moment this series could have been condensed into 2 or 3 books. I guess the author is getting her money’s worth out of me which I’m sure was the intent.

great book!!!

this is a great series! the only issue i have with it, is the way each book ends.. they don't really have an end.. which might be ok if i could get the next book right away! but in this case, the third book is not on audible!

Narrator keeps changing the text

This series is the first I’ve heard where the narration doesn’t match the text.
Some words are misread entirely, and some are altered subtly but change the meaning of the action.
Example
Narrator: “He turned, locking eyes on River”
Suggests that the character is looking at River, without River looking at him.
Author: “He turned, locking eyes on Rivers”
The character and River actually staring intently into each other’s eyes.

Ready for book #3 to be relased

I like these books! Definitely a good series to introduce myself to the reverse harem genre. However, it seems to be taking a long time for some of the relationships to progress.

The books are too short. No internal plot.

with a series each book should have it's own plot and purpose. definitely not a series where you could pick a book and say that any one story was a favorite. This is really unsatisfying and disappointing writing. The concept is great. World building is great. You get sucked right in and then it just randomly stops. again. the first book was the same. This reads more like a television episode than a season. I wouldn't bother starting it until more books are out.

2 is better than book 1

Found book 2 to be interesting, and it picks up where book 1 left off. The story progressed well re the Quint vs the Citadel, but stalls on the personal connections between Lera and the Quint. All except for mating with Shade;)
Since it took me a bit to buy and post a review for this book, I was able to read book 3 in the series - Trial of Three - the series gets better! Looking forward to the final book (per notes at end) Lera of Lunos, Power of Five Book 4.

Better than Book 1!

Absolutely loved Book 2 in the Power of Five series by Alex Lidell! I got really sucked into Book 1 by the end and then went right into Book 2 because I had noooo self control and needed to read more about Lera and her men. Book 2 did not disappoint! I especially loved the mating issue (and how they got to that point hehe) with Shade, loved River lowering down his walls, as well as Cole, and Tye being Tye and lightening the mood and being there for Lera when she needed it. I really enjoyed the different trials and Lera learning about her powers (with the help of River's super smart sister). I think Alex did a great job with the villains in this story as well (those on the Council and in other quints). Aaaand can't wait to see what happens with the fierce female quint leader and River's sister...that could be fun watching them circle each other/get to know one another haha. Overall, amazing and brilliant, can't wait for more ❤️❤️ I will say my only pet peeve is "stars" and exclamations. It got really repetitive starting in this book.

I also thought the narration was better in this audiobook. Was enraptured the whole time, the accents were more solid and consistent, and the inflections were spot on. Book 1 was more of a 4 star performance and this one is a 4.5 star performance. Can't wait for Book 3 to come out and especially for it to be released on audio. Will definitely be a one-click purchase 😊

It was ok

This is the second book in the Power of Five series. I enjoyed the magical elements and the action when it happened but, there was too much ‘loving’ happening. Yes I know it is a RH book but it just seemed too much for what was actually happening in the book at the time. More thought and detail seemed to be on that than anything else. Maybe it’s because it’s a short book? I don’t know but it spoilt it for me.

My Thoughts on Mistake of Magic

I was so excited to start this story after Power of Five. I loved that book and I had high hopes for this one. And it didn't disappoint. This story took some twists that I didn't expect and revealed a lot of secrets and traumas from the past. But I just loved the way it unfolded. I love the strengthening bonds between Lera and the guys. And I cannot wait to see what comes next. There is still so much that I'm waiting to see happen.

Once again I really enjoyed the narrator. She made the story easy to listen to, and her different voices for each character made it easy for me to know who was speaking even without seeing it. I wouldn't hesitate to listen to more books by her and feel like a great choice was made in narrator for this series.

Reviewed for Audiobook Obsession

River, Shade, Coal, and Tye are steadfast in keeping Lera safe, but Lera’s only goal is to keep the Quint together no matter what they have to endure to survive or the price she may have to pay.
Love how these characters are evolving and the relationship is developing not just a romp in bed. We have a definite plot and a continual developing storyline. Can’t wait to listen to the next book.

More great adventure and romance

The story just gets even better in this second book of the series. As the danger continues to grow so do the relationships between Lara and her quint mates. There is just so much to enjoy in this series.

I'm really enjoying Victoria Mei's performance. I look forward to hearing more!!

More involved now.

This book has so much going on I’m finding it difficult to keep up!! These’s so many dynamics between different characters in this relationship. Great storyline and characters that you just can’t get enough of. Victoria is brilliant with her narration.

Too short

These books are far too short and could easily be combined into 1-2 books rather than 4. Seems like a grab for money to me.

Also, although the story itself is good, the author needs to expand her vocabulary, as she insists on using the same terms to exhaustion.
