Acerca de esta escucha

A revealing and refreshing memoir of Hollywood in the 1970s

In 1963 after the death of her mother, 17-year-old Susanna Moore leaves her home in Hawai’i with no money, no belongings, and no prospects to live with her Irish grandmother in Philadelphia. She soon receives four trunks of expensive clothes from a concerned family friend, allowing her to assume the first of many disguises she will need to find her sometimes perilous, always valorous way.

Her journey takes her from New York to Los Angeles where she becomes a model and meets Joan Didion and Audrey Hepburn. She works as a script reader for Warren Beatty and Jack Nicholson, and is given a screen test by Mike Nichols. But beneath Miss Aluminum's glittering fairy-tale surface lies the story of a girl’s insatiable hunger to learn and her anguished determination to understand the circumstances of her mother’s death. Moore gives us a sardonic, often humorous portrait of Hollywood in the '70s, and of a young woman’s hard-won arrival at selfhood.

Such an interesting story about a beautiful young woman in 1960s Los Angeles/NY , plenty of movie stars, lots of interesting occurrences and beautiful details. It is just so distracting to hear about a sexual liaison in a voice that sounds like it comes from a 90 year old in a rocking chair. It is cringe-worthy. I really do feel terrible saying this because I believe it is read by the author, but she really should not have done it. Might be better to buy the book and read it instead of listen to it.

Great Story Told in a Distracting Granny Voice

I listened to this twice. It is a wonderful book. Read it. You may like as well.

Her voice

Woah the story is a snoozer and the narration particularly awful. Moore's voice is incredibly unsuited for an audiobook. I think it lays in the timbre of her voice but also lack of any natural inflection or deflection.

Circuitous Drab Narrative and Narration
