Publisher's summary

I died and was resurrected, and I don't know why.

My name is Casi Clarity. I was 26 years old when I died in 1969. Then I woke up in the 21st century - whole, sane, and unblemished. And at the same age I was when I died.

What's more, when I came back, I brought a friend with me. His name is Coheed. He's a corporeal spirit, and he is also my protector. Against what, you ask? Well, it seems that ever since my return, I've been chased by ghosts. Demons. Ancient evil. Monsters. You name it.

Why are they after me? Because they want to know my secret. They want to wreak havoc on mankind and bring about our ultimate destruction, and the only way they can accomplish that is by being fleshy beings again. To inhabit as many bodies as they can to cause untold horror. They are determined to discover how I returned from the dead, even if it means trapping me, torturing me, and ultimately killing me again to see if I'm resurrected a second time.

My name is Casi. The undead call me Mouse. Coheed calls me Miracle.

Resurrection and action

I binge listened to this book in basically one sitting and I was glad. This book is different from what I normally listen to but I was in the mood for something different. Casi is in an unusual predicament. She’s been dead for a long time and when she’s resurrected, it’s to a world she barely recognizes. She’s confronted almost immediately by a demon and she soon discovers she’s a magnet for the evil in the world. Her job is to figure out why she’s been brought back from the dead. Not a small task for just an average young woman.

I loved the creativity in the world building in the book. Casi’s predicament isn’t one encountered every day and how she deals with it is interesting to me. Demons? Books of the Bible? Priests? Good vs Evil. All these things build to an action-filled story that left me wanting more. This is only the first book and it definitely left off on a cliffhanger with Casi’s future in the balance. She’s with Coheed and he’s one of the good guys, but her survival is anything but a guarantee and I can’t wait to listen to the next book in the series.

Susan Marlowe is a new narrator to me and I think she did a great job with the young Casi, the hero Coheed and the elderly priest. She has distinct voices for each character and her performance was enjoyable.
