Eight internet friends have an "IRL" meeting in a mountain cabin. But instead of the long weekend get-together they planned, they're suddenly caught up in the end of the world as they knew it!
They just met for the first time in real life last night, and today's group wake-up call is strange messages floating in the air telling them that something called a "System Start" has just happened. Now magic works and technology doesn't. Cell phones won't work, cars won't start, and it's 10 miles to the nearest town. Some of them have families to worry about. Some of them don't even believe this is real. And all of them have secrets they'll have to overcome if they're going to work together and make it back to town alive.
On the way, they'll meet other survivors, also confused, scared, and questioning what's happening. Ten miles doesn't seem that far, but by the end of it, they'll have faced some of the worst that the System can throw at them.
And then things really get interesting.
The small Tennessee town they're trying to reach is isolated, cut off, and surrounded by a new and terrifying world. Outside the town, ordinary creatures are becoming things out of nightmare. And inside the town, legends are coming to life....
Mind Games is a new GameLit/LitRPG novel in the tradition of Tao Wong's "System Apocalypse". If you enjoy books by William Arand, Scottie Futch, and other contemporary LitRPG writers, you'll love Mind Games!

I enjoyed most of the characters in this book with only two maybe a bit more on the annoying side for me, The main characters class and his girlfriends (redhead) class/ability are both very interesting though i found my self wanting to know more about some of the rest of the characters.
Beyond that my only other complaint is the Character sheet, seemed needlessly crunchy, i normally have no issue with light/heavy litrpg mechanics in stories though i favor light ones my self.
My complaint about them feeling needlessly crunchy is we are given the break down of how the abilities work like in a video game/D&D (something i do both of), but the math is never really brought into question so it felt like just a waste and we could have cut it back some for more character interaction or fight scenes.
None the less i am extremely eager to get my hands on the next book in the series! and hope Marc Whipple continues more fantastic pieces of work.
Over all a good book.

I enjoyed this book. The main character and some people he met online meet at a cabin as they practice hypnotism. When he wakes up, he finds The System has taken over the world. Basically, the world has become an RPG with levels, monsters, and loot. He and his friends work to figure out the system, get to town, and help people they find along the way.
This book has many similarities to Tao Wong's System Apocalypse series. However, many people will likely find the main character less annoying (he functions better in a group and doesn't have anger issues), he has mind mage powers, and his new girlfriend can change into a catgirl.
I liked both the book and the narration, which was well done. I look forward to the next book in the series.

The story kicks off with a bang as eight internet friends gather in a remote mountain cabin, only to find themselves thrust into a world they could never have anticipated. The "System Start" message hangs in the air, and suddenly magic becomes real while technology falters. The group's dynamics shift as they navigate this new reality, complete with their individual secrets and doubts.
Whipple's character development is simply outstanding. Each member of the group feels authentic and relatable, with their distinct personalities shining through. As they journey towards the isolated Tennessee town, they encounter other survivors, and the dynamics between characters evolve in ways that kept me on the edge of my seat.
The progression of the story is masterfully executed. The challenges thrown at our heroes by the System are creative, intense, and often mind-bogglingly intricate. The suspense and excitement build with each obstacle they face, and just when I thought things couldn't get any more intense, Whipple turns up the dial to a whole new level.
But what truly sets Mind Games apart is its seamless incorporation of gaming elements into the narrative. The LitRPG aspects are flawlessly integrated, adding an extra layer of excitement for gamers like me. The way characters level up, acquire skills, and strategize within the new rules of this world is both thrilling and gratifying.
As for the audiobook narration by TJ Clark, I was thoroughly impressed. Clark's delivery brought the characters to life in a way that felt natural and immersive. Each voice was distinct, and his pacing kept me engaged throughout the entire experience. Even the quirky sound effects, like the girl's "Nyuh," which some might find annoying, personally left me chuckling and added to the overall charm of the performance.
If I have one minor criticism, it's that the ending felt a bit abrupt. However, considering this is the first book in a series, I understand the need to leave readers eager for the next installment. Additionally, the young adult perspective might not resonate with everyone, but I found it refreshing and well-executed.
In conclusion, Mind Games is an absolute triumph in the realm of LitRPG and apocalypse genres. Marc Whipple has crafted a spellbinding adventure filled with suspense, camaraderie, and endless twists that kept me hooked from start to finish. I'm eagerly looking forward to the next book in the RealRPG series and can't wait to see where this incredible journey takes us next.
Nyuh, nyuh,nyuh!
