Publisher's Summary

Constance Campbell has made a few questionable decisions in the run-up to her 40th birthday. So in a way, moving 2,000 miles away from everything she's ever known makes perfect sense.

Creel Creek, Virginia, is the last place either of her ex-husbands would ever think to look for her. What better place to hide from her humiliations than a town too small to warrant a mention on a map?

Laid off, and recently divorced from husband number two, this former workaholic moves in with her estranged - and very strange - grandmother. A grandmother who informs Constance that she comes from a long line of powerful witches. And on the day she hits the big 4-0, she'll come into her powers.

It turns out that she's not the only paranormal person in town. Under the sleepy surface, the small town is teeming with supernatural beings.

When Constance finds the town's resident vampire dead, things go from surreal to scary. The local sheriff is convinced that a killer is lurking in the shadows, hunting anyone with supernatural abilities...including witches like her.

He's not wrong.

Can Constance learn enough magic to save herself and Creel Creek from this unknown foe?

unexpected fun and laughter.

I thought the story was interesting twist and it was. I enjoyed the characters and laughed a few times at some great one liners. After I was done I went looking for the next. oops. it was just released. no matter I will wait for the next and in the mean time I will listen to the author's other books.

Different spin on midlife

I enjoyed this book - I thought it was unusual that the heroine doesn't come into her witch powers until she turns 40, yet the rest of the town has real no restrictions on their lifestyle. While I enjoyed the story, some parts I found hard to jump into believing - like the book store - the owner of the book store and her lifestyle. I supposed it could be believable, but it didn't MAKE ME want to believe. The murder mystery was a clever twist, but the guilty person lacked depth in character to make me what to either hate him or feel sorry for him....and there is a couple of things unfinished/cliff hanger! I gave this novel 4 stars across because it was a nice escape and found it creative despite the quirks I noted above. Chris Dukehart did a great job giving all the characters their own personality as the narrator

Boring, boring, boring & dumb!

This paranormal midlife crisis woman genre, has the potential to be so much fun. However, this book was simply ridiculous. Talking animals, witchcraft only coming in when you’re 40, werewolf boyfriend. This book is just plain stupid. So unless you’re a 40-year-old that wants to be entertained on the level of a lifetime movie, skip it.
