Hello and welcome to my book Metabolic Syndrome and Diabetes.

Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) itself is not a disease; it significantly raises the risk of developing serious health conditions. Individuals with Metabolic Syndrome are at a higher risk of developing a variety of other conditions and complications.

Metabolic Syndrome is the shadowy precursor to Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. It operates beneath the surface, often without obvious symptoms, until a life-altering medical event occurs.

Metabolic syndrome can lead to a wide range of complications, including[1]:
  • Heart disease.
  • Aortic stenosis (when the aortic valve in your heart narrows and blood can’t flow normally).
  • Atrial fibrillation (Afib).
  • Thromboembolic disease, like venous thromboembolism.
  • Stroke.
  • Organ damage, to pancreas, liver, gallbladder and kidneys.
  • Certain cancers like colon cancer, breast cancer and prostate cancer.
  • Type 2 diabetes.
  • Long-term inflammation and problems with your immune system.
  • Erectile dysfunction.
  • Pregnancy complications, such as preeclampsia, eclampsia and gestational diabetes.
  • Issues with thinking and memory.
This syndrome is not a singular ailment, but a combination of interconnected risk factors that usually manifest together, posing a significant public health issue. The biochemical alterations seen in MetS, such as disturbances in glucose and lipid metabolism, immune response, endothelial cell function, and intestinal microbiota, establish pathological connections between MetS, diabetes, and cardiovascular and neurodegenerative conditions.

A person meets the criteria for Metabolic Syndrome if they have at least three of the following: :[2]
  • Excess abdominal weight
  • Hypertriglyceridemia
  • Low levels of HDL cholesterol
  • Elevated blood sugar levels:
  • High blood pressure

Learn how to Prevent, Reverse and Manage Metabolic Syndrome and the more serious health conditions it causes naturally with Life Style changes and a healthy anti-inflammatory diet.
